Detroit A widespread power outage Tuesday has caused evacuations of buildings throughout the downtown, including Joe Louis Arena, Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, the Detroit Institute of Arts and some buildings at Wayne State University. Most of Detroit's municipal power grid has gone down, cutting electricity to public buildings in the city, officials have said.
Police, fire, school, and jail buildings have lost power and traffic lights aren't working, a city spokesperson said.
Some people are trapped in elevators throughout Detroit, according to Detroit Fire Chief Jack Wiley, and fire crews are working to free them.
Affected buildings included Detroit Institute of Arts, Wayne State, and the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, which people evacuated by stairwells, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Cry me a river.
The Windsor Ballet!
Good times (and lots of dollar bills...)
Been there, done that.
Rouge!
Thick as tapioca.
A-squared is DTE; they cow-tow to the current cultural douche-baggery.
Out-state (including Jacktown) is CMS/CP: they really don’t care one way or the other.
From my memory, Dave Joos (he still there?) is a non-descript guy who cares only if the shareholders get their returns.
That isn’t really true.

Post 89 too, and the rest of the thread.
hmm, I’ll read them again. Nothing would surprise me anymore.
Thanks for the links.
White Racist Tea Baggers I am sure will get the blame for Holder and Sharpton!
Detroit? You mean “New Fallujah”, right?
In my experience with Ann Arbor (years ago), I learned that a lot of residential electricity is still delivered via overhead cable. Couple that with Ann Arbor’s fondness for trees and unwillingness to cut them back, and it makes power outages common whenever a weather event rolls through.
Hands up! Power is out!
Something tells me that everyone there just didn’t pay the light bill.
SUNSET is at 5:02pm in Detroit today. It’s mostly cloudy and schools have released their students because of the power outage. The power to the cops’ gasoline supplies is out so police cars cannot currently be gassed up at those locations.
What could possibly go wrong.
Lots of expensive copper to be stolen in those sub stations.
When the power comes back on, suddenly SURPRISE!.....................
Re: “Moscow on the Huron”
That would be Ann Arbor; Detroit’s on the (are you ready?) Detroit River...
This is good. Detroit is on the leading edge of green technology. Just turn the grid off!
