If you don't believe media bias plays a role in how Americans interpret use of force by law enforcement, try this simple test. Do a Google search for "police officer kills unarmed man." I did and I got 179,000 results. Searching "Police officer shoots unarmed man" returned 205,000 results. Finally, I flipped the search around and typed, "unarmed man attacks police officer." I got this message: "No results found."
So does that mean no unarmed men are attacking and seriously injuring officers? Absolutely not.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) says 57,892 law enforcement officers are assaulted each year and 15,483 sustain serious injuries. The most recent FBI "Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted" (LEOKA) report indicates that 80.2% of the assaults against law enforcement in 2012 were committed by unarmed subjects. The 2012 LEOKA report also reveals that unarmed subject attacks are the leading cause of injury for law enforcement officers.
The media's total disregard for these facts in regard to the coverage of the recent Ferguson and Staten Island incidents leads me to conclude that reporters are unaware of the annual NLEOMF and LEOKA reports or read them and ignore them. One conclusion is evidence of unacceptable ignorance. The other is evidence of anti-police bias.
Two federal officers can attest to the bias.
Initial coverage of a 2008 deadly force incident in the U.S. Virgin Islands that involved ATF Special Agent Will Clark suggested Clark's use of deadly force against an unarmed man was unjustified. But what those reports omitted was the fact that Clark intervened to prevent a 300-pound man from fatally battering a woman. Nonetheless, the local and national press minimized the threat of an enraged, irrational 300-pound man charging and swinging a long steel flashlight and focused solely on reporting

Unarmed - should be defined as “did not have a similar weapon compared to the opposite side” (i.e. Fists vs handgun)
Further and responsible comment should then be interjected and state, “ Suspect was unarmed compared to the opposite side - but was in a position to gain the weapon of the opposite side and use such weapon in an illegal and dangerous way as to cause lost of life.”
But that does not cause emotions to stir - riots to occur and 24 hr news coverage to sell its advertising spots...
There were 726 homicides committed in 2011 alone with hands, fists and feet, and the majority of those homicides were committed by young black males.
More homicides are committed each year with hands, fists and feet than are committed with rifles and shotguns combined, including 2012 when the Newtown, Connecticut and Aurora, Colorado mass-murders occurred.
A 64 292-pound documented violent thug like Saint Charging Bull would be more than capable of killing a cop with his bare hands and Air Jordans.
I have been preaching this sermon for several months. Millions of women and children, both dead and alive know a man’s hands are a lethal weapon when he chooses to use them as such.
Beating and choking deaths are common. Do those killers get away with murder because they were ‘unarmed’?
How many women kill their children with their bare hands?
Give them a break...maybe they were referring to Thanksgiving and all the turkeys.
If a thug is grappling with a police office, and the pistol is still in the officer’s holster, both are equally armed/unarmed.
That explains the thumb wound.
Why, he.. he was just a CHILD, who was murdered in cold, racist blood!
bttt
That is what I have been saying a 300 pound deranged, drug induced person can be a considered a killer.
An adrenaline dump is seriously no fun when you’re trying to restrain somebody. I Myself and about 4 other officers had to restrain a guy who tried to stab my partner with an ink pen. the guy was in a cell and it was a steel cage match for the better part of 10 minutes. On christmas eve. At 2358. Merry friggin’ Christmas.

Wrongo. Next contestant.

I would direct these “he was unarmed!” protestors to a scene from Game of Thrones. Youtube “The Viper vs. The Mountain”...gruesome.
Do you mean the 'toady show' or 'Today Show'? They went to the birds years ago.
Give them a break...maybe they were referring to Thanksgiving and all the turkeys.
Yeah may..be? Or?
Nbc’s fowl weather bloop is typical of the mental prowess behind it’s every day foul behavior no quarter to be proffered.
They crucified Dan Quayle over a one letter ‘e’ addition to the spelling of the word potato. Sheeeee what counts and when calling time to take in Idiocracy movie.

Arizona - -(Ammoland.com)- Has the use of the word teenager by the old media given criminal teens a sense of immunity?
You see it again and again. Trayvon Martin is constantly referred to as a teenager, as though that somehow absolved him of his crimes.
Most male children, who are brought up in intact families, do not become predatory creatures in their teens. But for those who do not have strong, moral, male role models in their lives, especially if this is the default position in their community, predation is a common role.
In a home invasion in Georgia, the homeowner grabbed his gun as his door was broken down. As he confronted the three invaders, they yelled at him.
From wrdw.com:
The first thing he hollered, we is teenagers, dont shoot me, Green said.
Green said he didnt care what age they were, they were breaking into his home.
If you are old enough to do a crime, age doesnt matter. Doesnt matter whether youre a teenager, youre grown. If you can do the crime, your punishment, it shouldnt matter. I had my gun in my hand and I just started firing at them, Green said.
A six foot plus 17 year old can be just as dangerous as an older criminal, maybe more. As I read media reports, it seems that being 17 should give some special sort of invulnerability to bullets and jail. The juvenile justice system may give some invulnerability to jail, for a time. But words do not stop bullets.
The progressive position seems to be that children are inherently good. That is not true. Children are inherently selfish and amoral. In Christianity, this is recognized as original sin. Each child is a wild animal that must be civilized and taught moral virtues. This is much harder to do in a single parent home. If teenagers are told that they are expected to steal, as many media reports seem to imply; and that it is excused because they are teenagers, we should not be surprised when large percentages of them become actual criminals.

Right you are...
FBI stats for 2011 (most recent available) show “Other Weapons” (hands, fist, feet) accounted for 728 victims...
Add in drugged state, loss of fear or sensation of pain in an assailant, or “excited delirium” which some emergency medical/health professionals say is being seen more frequently among heavy marijuana users (Michael Brown?)...
And I’m not anti-medical or recreational marijuana, but a 300# male in such a state is definitely capable of “unarmed” killing...
Devil’s always in the details...
