No bartender problem when my late Uncle Marty was the head bartender at JFK International Airport. He was considered the bartender's bartender and looked every inch the part. Not only could he effortlessly whip up fantastic drinks (he never drank a drop) but he kept the customers entertained all night with an endless string of jokes and funny stories. He was frequently featured in bartender magazines.
Mob guys liked to hang out at his bar. Whenever he was at home and called in a favor to the Mob guys he identified himself as "Big Mike," not Marty for some reason. Anyway, Uncle Marty was the exact OPPOSITE of the Yuppie type bartender.

All I expect is a properly made gin and tonic or a Perfect Manhattan. Everything else is just fluff.

I never cared to drink but I would probably love to hang around your late uncle. I’m a good nurser of sodas.

Water in your bourbon? No how, no way. Manhattans neat. Ice is only good for chilling the glass. Why dilute good Blanton’s with water. Nectar of the gods.

“Lack of planning”. I have no sympathy and fail to understand the merits of this article. This is stupid. One of the first things I do when traveling is find out where I can source my own booze. Shots are a ripoff.
And the author is an idiot: Who quotes their own words for a closing sentence? I’m not even going to address the ‘mob guys’ bravado...
