Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has said he wants recipients of food stamps and unemployment benefits to undergo drug tests, a move that could face possible legal trouble.
The state is already one of five that require public assistance applicants who are convicted of drug felony charges to be tested for drugs, along with Maine, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Virginia, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Should Walker propose a broader measure that involves testing benefits applicants either randomly or without suspicion that they have used drugs, it could be found unconstitutional because of a 2003 Michigan Court of Appeals case, the NCSL said.

Well, since you have to pass a drug test to get a job these days, I’d imagine it is not only appropriate, but an absolute necessity!
Worthless gesture because a judge will toss it out.
What he needs to do is make people re-apply every year. Same thing we should do with Disability.
Prove to me that you still need this.
A condition of employment for myself is random drug tests. This should be a no brainer.

We got a law like that passed in Florida but a judge overruled the will of the legislature.
So you have to get a drug test to work at Wally World of Mickie d’ but to require it to get money from me via the state just really sucks

When a Republican is president, the Democrats pass laws all the time that they know perfectly well will be vetoed.
They do it to create a talking point, and score a PR victory.
Why can't our side do the same?
Lots of people who work have to take drug tests. Lots of people resent the fact that many of those on welfare spend all day getting high.
I think this is a great move by Governor Walker.
What would Michael Brown think of this?
I predict that within the decade most employment drug testing will be made illegal. Brought to you by the same people bringing legal weed to the western states.
Employers can also screen for criminal records. For some reason, welfare benefits aren't subject to this screen.

“This is a great idea. As a a physician, I constantly see substance abusers ending up in the hospital and when asked how they get their money (for drugs or anything else), they tell me “I’m on disability”. Tax-payer dollars are going to drug dealers folks. It’s called diversion and it’s just as bad as selling one’s Rx meds for cash. If someone wants to use, they can do it on their own dime, not the tax-payers.”
I’d make them report for road, ditch, creek, etc. clean up and if they don’t show, you dock the amount they get.
The primary reason that leftists require that all charity be through the gov’t is that there will be no requirements placed on the recipients.
Historically, this is proven out.
Private charities will inherently have limited resources,
and some sort of criteria will inevitably be introduced.
And the left fears that such criteria might be aligned with Christian values.
Rick Scott tried that in Florida. Some moron court struck it down.
