The people transporting the victim should have continued the the ER with the cops behind them...Happens all the time actually....The cops generally figure out what’s happening as the vehicle drives directly to the hospital...
Most can figure out someone quickly pulling into the ER of a hospital they’re very likely transporting someone with a serious medical issues.
In fact this has happened to many guys taking their pregnant wives to the ER....
In one incident, the cop was so offended the guy never pulled over he wrote the husband a speeding ticket directly in front of the ER as the wife was quickly wheeled in.
There is very little common sense or discretion anymore...
By the way we are on to people who call EMS with a minor complaint to cut the wait in the ER. We now triage them, and if the problem is minor you get sent to the waiting room to register and wait your turn.

That’s the way it should be, but I imagine it also depends on state law, and how much liability a hospital wants to expose themselves to. If a person thinks they are having a heart attack, what would you advise?
When I live in San Jose the response time for an ambulance was indeed around 8 to 10 minutes....These kids should have called 911. But they didn’t do that because they are likely gang members (I base that on the part of town they were partying in) and most likely had been drinking and drugging. They didn’t want to report a crime. They didn’t want to save their ‘friend’s’ life. It is all too routine for these thugs to end up dumped in the ER at Regional with no one there to answer any questions.
However... the MercuryNews article wasn't about the lawsuit.
It was about San Jose not meeting county standards on 8 minute response time for 90% of calls. For over a year. Only city in the county that did that.

Since the county is Santa Clara what is the ‘county standard’? 8 to 10 minutes is great response time for a city the size of San Jose
You have no clue as to the size of San Jose. The other cities in Santa Clara county are small well contained units that have several locations for ambulance services. The city covers nearly 180 square miles. To get from one side of town to other can take as long as 45 minutes depending on traffic (and that is on the freeway)
You do not know what you are talking about so just stop

Then double it by the time they get to a real ER physician.

I liked it better when the funeral home ran the ambulance service here.
They showed up more quickly, and were cheaper.

I believe that most are control freaks before they become cops, it just becomes more pronounced once they are on the job. There is not much information in this story and I do not know how this case will turn out but some times cops deserve to be sued. It is too bad that the taxpayers they work for are almost always the entity that ends up paying for their actions.

We should micro stamp every bullet and take names when we all buy ammo so there will be no more "stray" bullets and we will know exactly who pulled the trigger. Or not.

It is nice, though, to get what could be the other side of the story. Something which the “anti-statists” usually don’t care about.
How long was the delay? Did the cops make any effort to assess the victim? Even without any medical training, most people would be able to locate a gunshot wound, get a sense of how much bleeding there was, and the victims level of consciousness.
If the victim was a cop, I doubt there would be any delay. All cops know about the golden hour.
Yeah, no reason to stop a party, just because friends have been shot and need medical attention. There's still beer left!

Don't try to defend 911 medical emergency calls as the right way to go in every situation. I won't use them here, and I'm not a gang-banger, and I damn sure ain't a teen.

Read the article yourself....There are numerous reasons INCLUDING increased traffic. The other cities in Santa Clara county are small....San Jose covers a huge area and has nearly a million people. You don’t live in the area and have NO IDEA of how long it takes to get from point to point.
