It is not “calories in...calories out”. Read up.

Does your reading repeal the first law of thermodynamics? I think it is you who needs to read more.

Our nation’s overweight problems are linked to our increased consumption of convenience foods and other foods that are high in carbohydrate counts.

Our nation is overweight because we're consuming more energy than we burn. It has a lot to do with a sedentary lifestyle. Sitting around eating crap while playing video games results in a much different outcome than running around outside until you are forced to come home and eat dinner.

As a nation, we consumed huge quantities of carbohydrates a few generations ago, yet obesity was rare. That's because we worked like hell and burned it off. Our genes haven't changed, but our lifestyle has. Focusing on the source of the calories is just another distraction brought to you by people with an agenda that involves politics or taking your money. Same as it ever was.

First-hand witness to: genetic clones (identical twins) who when young were what "conventional wisdom" calls those lucky genetic types who can "eat anything and not get fat." These guys would pile in the food by the plateful -- I watched and refilled the plates a time or two.

By middle age, one of those clones was becoming beefy and overweight, while the other continued to exhibit the eat-anything-not-get-fat lifestyle.

Guess which one was married to a woman who fed him the typical low-fat low animal protein mid to high-carb American "healthy" diet, and which one was the bachelor who continued to eat pretty much the way he was raised?

Genetics are overplayed by people who want to rationalize why being fat not their fault. Yes, genetics determine how a body metabolizes food for sure in a big way -- some people can depend on dairy for a large amount of vital nutrients, and others (lactose intolerant) must find different sources (eggs, hard greens).

Where this utopian "nutrition by government" business is headed, of course, is to try to justify in the name of "health" the removal of animal proteins from a human diet, and that is suicide.

Vegans are an illustration of Darwinism in action.
