In the eyes of many progressives and civil rights advocates, the police shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri earlier this month was a tragic and familiar story: the latest example of the law enforcement community's prejudiced administration of justice.
Now, a group of notables and activists, joined by several members of the Congressional Black Caucus, are demanding the establishment of a federal police "czar," employed by the Justice Department, to oversee local law enforcement practices and help prevent racial bias in policing.
"In cities across America, local law enforcement units too often treat low-income neighborhoods populated by African Americans and Latinos as if they are military combat zones instead of communities where people strive to live, learn, work, play and pray in peace and harmony," explained a letter to President Obama posted as an advertisement in Monday's Washington Post.
The letter was signed by more than 100 people, including CBC Chairwoman Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka, and Jim Wallis, the president of Sojourners, a left-leaning faith-based organization.
Brown is "is only the latest in a long list of black men and boys who have died under eerily similar circumstances," the letter added. "The pattern is too obvious to be a coincidence and too frequent to be a mistake."(continued)
“Just as strong, just as well-funded...” ??
Unconstitutional. We’ve still got those pesky STATES RIGHTS! The U.S. Constitution says nothing about a “police czar” to run local police departments.
“...[signed] by more than 100 people...”
OMG! We’d better get on this RIGHT AWAY! The MAJORITY has spoken!
*Rolleyes*
Any time the phrase “too often” is used, the premise is absolutely 100% guaranteed to be horses**t. It’s an automatic “we can control this from our perch on high, from our pedestal of moral superiority, we are smarter, laws are not enough...oh and by the way, white people have to be punished.”
Can we not call progressives for what they are: socialists, or dare I say it: communists? Is that too hard, and why do we live in a world of euphemisms?
According to Obama, all that can be taken care of with his pen and a phone call.
The federal government is the servant of the States, not the other way around.

And just like clockwork, and as predicted - THE REASON WHY the regime and the media made hay with Ferguson, was to use that “crisis” to justify nationalizing all law enforcement in the country.
And as grey_whiskers rightly noted - for “a national civilian security force, just as strong, just as powerful and just as well funded as the military”.
Ferguson is the manufactured impetus towards that end.
Right. And the Executive cannot make law by decree either.
Yet here we are.
“progressives” = friggin communists
“In wake of Ferguson shooting, progressives demand federal police czar”
GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ! Will they never quit!?
We need to get rid of all the other crap the progressives have saddled our government with, not more.
Police czars of the past:
Lavrenti Beria
Herman Goering
Joseph Fouche
Aelius Sejanus
Et cetera...
“AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka,”
Don’t a lot of cops belong to unions? Something tells me this ma break up democrats stranglehold on ALL unions.
Sure, why not?
Gov. Nixon has already decided to replace his current Director of Public Safety with former St. Louis City Police Chief Dan Isom, who just so happens to be black.
Captain “Hugathug” Johnson has a bright future ahead of him too, perhaps as mayor of Ferguson or even the next superintendent of the Missouri Highway Patrol.
So it stands to reason with all the handwringing and appeasement that there will another fed czar to oversee the state and local police. Guess what color they will be?
I hope that everyone understands that this move is right in line with Obamas promise to have a domestic army just as well equipped and well funded. Federalize all the police and you have just another force you can move around the map to do you bidding.
We should give Darren Wilson an award for keeping an illegal gun off the streets (his), and watch the liberal’s heads explode.
Gear God in heaven I hate these people you made ;/
I blame Missouri voters.
Local policing must forever be the responsibility of the local community. Whenever a federal authority takes control tyranny is close behind. We must get back to states rights - as called for by the Constitution.
Georing was not the Police Czar. That was Heinrich Himmler, Reichsfuherer der Shutzstaffel. They called themselves Progressives, to boot.
