Michael Sam, who became the first openly gay football player to be drafted by an NFL team, has made waves in just three preseason games. But on a surprisingly deep St. Louis roster, Sam's spot is hardly guaranteed.
"Hes no different than any other late-round pick or college free agent that we have. Hes just trying to make this team, Rams coach Jeff Fisher said in his office the other day. We have a reality that we can only keep so many players at that position. Is he better than that fourth or fifth defensive end? Right now, I cant answer that.

Forty FBI agents descend on Rams training camp!
And by “Sam’s fate” you mean Michael Sam not Sam Bradford? I think Sam Bradford might be done too. They are going to have to go QB in next years draft. They’ll have a high draft pick again.
You mean he got an ESPY Award for being a Sodomite for nothing?
Stupid ESPN strikes again!
No he was not picked last. 7th round but not last. Lonnie Ballentine is this years “Mr. Irrelevant.”
Your point stands about him being iffy though.
You expect too much.
“He can become a network sports commentator and share his grievances with the rest of country from now til forever.”
Exactly. ESPN will hire him and pay him more than he’d ever earn in the NFL.
what you said... exactly.
For that matter, no more deep safeties, or talk of defense reaching around and batting the ball.
Then wait for the LGBT group to go ballistic - gay bashing ...
I can hear it now...."Whoo Hoo that play gets 'two snaps in a Z-Formation.'"
Well he can always pull out a come from behind turnaround... he will u dou tedly be bringing up the rear during this first season’s outing.
"Hated it!"
If at this point, “I cannot tell” is the best the coach can say....he is telling.
What’s his time in the 40 yard prance?
My only issue with Sams is that I suspect he’s more of a glory hound than he originally let on. The reality show he agreed to is one of several main reasons I feel that way. The ridiculous kiss on draft night is exhibit B.
When he first came out, I had no issues. What he said was fine...he said he had announced to his team last year, and wanted to announce publicly on his terms. It’s almost certain someone would have shared that info to the media during or after the draft. With that initial statement, all is good in my book.
It is possible that he knew he would probably not get drafted and did it to up his stock, but by all appearances, more teams avoided him in the draft rather than raise his stock because of it. After his announcement and before the draft, he also had a very poor combine, which probably had more affect on that than anything.
My major issue with all this is the massive left-wing push in sports right now. This is but one chapter of it, and it’s grating on me. I watch sports to avoid politics. That is damn near impossible the past 24 months.
At least Michael got a sack on the infamous Johnny Football.
Every time he appears on ESPN there will be a caption at the bottom reading “Michael Sam. First openly gay commentator for ESPN.” This will continue for years.
