“This school year, instead of the illustrious pink cookie, Elyria students will be treated to a salad bar and a yogurt bar. There’s a sandwich bar, too. It will feature vegetables and egg patties.”

All to be thrown out promptly about one minute after it hits the plate.

“The meanest, grouchiest people don’t want anyone to have fun, or desert... but them. I can guarantee that Mooch has desert on a regular basis.”

This is the idiocy that results once people allow the government to interfere in their lives for the sake of getting money from Uncle Sugar.

I naturally assumed if Michele was going to outlaw a cookie it would be the Black N’ White?

I have no sympathy for anyone -- student and parent alike -- on this issue.

To me, a school lunch program -- and all of the whining you hear even on FreeRepublic about these idiotic nanny-state rules and regulations -- is symptomatic of exactly what is wrong with this country.

For a parent to demand that the government (i.e., the TAXPAYERS) must feed their children in school, and then turn around and complain about what they're getting, is the epitome of someone consigning their children to self-imposed slavery.

Elyria, according to this
http://censusviewer.com/city/OH/Elyria

Dems 39.55%
Pubbies 15.32%
Non-partisan 45.03%
Libertarian 0.07%
Green 0.02%

I suspect the ‘non-partisan’ vote is Dem. Then you add in the Green and Libertarians and you have a total of 84.67% who are collectivists of one sort or another.

Let them reap the rewards of their idiocy.

Obesity costs everyone. If I have to pay for their health care, then the government has the right to dictate what we eat. Get rid of socialized medicine and welfare, then we can talk about your right to eat what you want.

(for those in Rio Linda, that was '/s')

Correct on the ‘non-partisan’ vote. I’m very surprised by the Dem 39.55%. I would think it would be closer to 65 or 70%. Elyria is in Lorain County. The southern/rural part of the county is more heavily republican and the northern/urban portion is heavy/corruptly democrat run.

I know a lot of these democrats, many of them are sick of Obama but will vote for Hitlery when the time comes.

Even the kids that pay for their lunches, like my grandkids, are subject to these restrictions. They’ll survive, but the interference by a non-entity like Michelle Obama infuriates me.

Then stop paying for the lunches and take a stand. You'll probably get further that way.

There was an interesting story posted here last week about a school district in Kentucky that was rejecting their Federal lunch funding and all the nanny-state restrictions that come with it after getting the funding for one or two school years.

The school board wasn't motivated by any sense of outrage over the government meddling, mind you. The superintendent of schools was clear about what was motivating them. The revenue they lost from all the kids who stopped buying lunch at school exceeded the revenue they got from the Federal government for the program.

Money always talks. Use it to your advantage.

“Then stop paying for the lunches and take a stand. “

I pay for nothing——my kids pay for the lunches—and the grandkids are all in high school or beyond.

We have pretty much escaped the Michelle Mandates, but I’m horrified that this is taking place.

Good for that district in Kentucky.
