Jeff Bell’s surging Senate race against Cory Booker
The New York Post ^ | August 3, 2014

In his Senate run against Cory Booker, Republican Jeff Bell is doing nothing the experts tell you a candidate should do — and everything they say you shouldn’t.

But here’s the extraordinary thing: He continues to close the gap against a man who is supposed to be “unbeatable.”

One thing’s for sure: Bell is confounding the experts. A recent New York Times-CBS poll has Bell within seven points of Booker. That’s an improvement over a mid-June Rasmussen poll that put the gap between Bell and Booker at 13 points.

Here are just some of the reasons this race shouldn’t be close: •It’s been more than three decades since Bell last ran for office in New Jersey. •He’s lived out-of-state for most of the years since. •He’s a Republican in a blue state. •He has almost no cash, against a war chest of nearly $3 million for Booker. •He’s campaigning on monetary policy, trying to make it a populist issue, for example, by blaming high costs for working- and middle-class families on the weak dollar. He says the Fed’s policies have meant a transfer of wealth from Main Street to Wall Street — whose campaign dollars go to his rival, incumbent Sen. Booker.

Given that the campaign is moving in his direction against all odds, we’re not about to tell Jeff Bell what to do next. Today he plans to lead a “Street Protest Against Harry Reid” in Cherry Hill, where Reid will be appearing on behalf of a Democratic candidate for the House.

Maybe Reid should stop by. If things keep going the way they are, come November they might be colleagues.

Count me surprised, I didn’t see this coming at all. But maybe Cory Booker is not the superstar he’s been portrayed as. Some politicians have a history of underperforming on election day.

Maybe Obama has cured some people of ‘white guilt’.

Booker has had unpopularity up the wazoo among the black constituents of Newark who don’t really even consider him black. There are persistent rumors he’s a sodomite, he doesn’t really live in the state, he was a crud mayor who got people killed. If the RNC B**** had helped Steve Lonegan, he might have pulled it out. But they tripped him just like with Cooch, and dried up the funds so both candidates failed.

In a big wave, Bell has a shot.

It better be a BIG wave because Booker has 100% of the cemetery vote.

And Christie will only get involved in Governor races? Not a Senate race in his own state?

Bell has no chance, and will lose by 10+

Crispy Crème won’t get involved in Governor’s races, either, such as neighboring NY. He loves Democrats and Democrat incumbents. He should stop insulting our intelligence and switch parties.

And note: NOT governors races he feels are a ‘lost cause’.

There is no “maybe” about it, Booker is a clown.

If he were facing a first tier opponent he would be dead meat.

He’s a clown, but he is a talented operator with a mid tier lawfirm background.

Still think Bell won’t pull within 15% because only about 1/3rd of the state’s voters were adults living in NJ the last time that Bell was a household name in the state.

Great comparison. When I lived in NJ (it doesn’t seem that long ago, but is), republicans were regularly elected to statewide and national offices. When things went south, they went quickly. It was a good place to live back then. Not anymore.
