The first Ebola victim to be brought to the United States from Africa was safely escorted into a specialized isolation unit Saturday at one of the nation's best hospitals, where doctors said they are confident the deadly virus won't escape.
Fear that the outbreak killing more than 700 people in Africa could spread in the U.S. has generated considerable anxiety among some Americans. But infectious disease experts said the public faces zero risk as Emory University Hospital treats a critically ill missionary doctor and a charity worker who were infected in Liberia.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has received "nasty emails" and at least 100 calls from people saying "How dare you bring Ebola into the country!?" CDC Director Tom Frieden told The Associated Press Saturday.
"I hope that our understandable fear of the unfamiliar does not trump our compassion when ill Americans return to the U.S. for care," Frieden said.

(Floridians are very familiar with these little suckers. bio engineered at UF .. and they got out)
The same people who said you could keep your doctor, rates won’t go up, this won’t hurt and I’ve never been on a golf course?
Yep, the opening scene always makes the hair on my neck prickle. Never a better cinematic use of Don't Fear the Reaper, IMO.
This is an ideal situation for us to get up to speed on Ebola, an American missionary, Ebola doctor who caught it himself in Africa, and who will be the perfect patient at one of our 4 special units in America for Ebola isolation and treatment.
Ping...
As David Alan Coe once sang, “This’ll only hurt for a little while...”(remainder edited for content)
But how did it get into the isolation unit ? Magic ?
I have zero concern for public health from someone in isolation at a facility designed for that purpose.
I have concerns about the thousands of people coming from africa to the US every day who are potential carriers.
were see come September
They say, to reinforce their idea of safety that the hospital is only a few blocks from the CDC...
The same CDC who left samples of small pox and dengue fever and other such diseases lying about unsecured for the past 50 years?
My best friend is supposed to have surgery at this hospital this month. I am scheduled to care for her 9/1
as the country song said “Famous last words of a fool....”
“the public faces zero risk”
Yes, because unlike ordinary human beings, these people are infallible.
Compassion for one person doesn't justify endangering the whole population. The doctor took a risk and lost . I respect his sacrifice but he should not have been brought back to the USA.
Yeah right!
According to Shawn Moran, the vice president and spokesman for the National Border Patrol Council, scabies and lice are the two main infestations that his agents come across. He adds that chicken pox, measles, H1N1 and tuberculosis are also pretty common. Really, he says they see a whole gamete of diseases and thats what his men are most concerned with.
Moran tells KDKA Radios Mike Pintek that there have been agents who have been hospitalized with respiratory illnesses that they believe came from their job. He says the agents understand going into the job that this is one of their responsibilities.
And now we allow ebola in through the front door, anyone feel like thier under attack?
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
