11.4 million Americans age 16 and over have left the workforce since President Obama took office in January 2009, according to data released today from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

In July 2014, there were 92,001,000 Americans, 16 and over, who were classified as “not in the labor force,” meaning they not only did not have a job, but they didn’t actively seek one in the last four weeks.

This number has increased by 11,472,000 since January 2009, when the number of Americans not in the labor force was 80,529,000.

The number of Americans not in the labor force dropped slightly in July, down 119,000 from the 92,120,000 Americans not in the labor force in June.

The participation rate, which measures the percentage of the civilian non-institutional population that participated in the labor force by either having a job or actively seeking one, increased from 62.8 percent in June to 62.9 percent in July.

In July, the number of unemployed Americans increased by 197,000 (from 9,474,000 in June to 9,671,000 in July), meaning they did not have a job even though they were actively seeking one.

hile the number of unemployed increased in July, so did the number of employed Americans: In June, there were 146,221,000 employed Americans, and that number climbed to 146,352,000 in July, a one-month increase of 131,000.

The unemployment rate increased from 6.1 percent in June to 6.2 percent in July.

I really haven’t noticed any increase of poetry being released out there. I wonder what all these people are doing.

"Happy times are here again ..." to repeat an old refrain that might apply.

It was necessary for this crooked administration to “lose” that many workers or the true unemployment rate would be 12%. Even the lo-info Democrats may have caught on that Obama is a failure...but they would have re-elected him anyway because he’s half-Black and gives them Free Stuff.

I’ve noticed an increase in “spray paint art” aka “graffitti” on business and school walls. Business must be boomin’ at Home Depot.

Some of us have been out of work over a year because of this disasterous economy. I do not collect welfare or watch the boob tube during the day - I am sending out resumes and going on job interviews and I have a contract for a book so the rest of the time I’m on the computer. No one, but no one, is hiring anyone over 55. We have run through our savings and are on the point of losing our home. This, after 40 years of being in the work force. This is not funny, this is not laziness, it is sheer disaster for this country.

It is LEGAL IMMIGRATION that is primarily driving our population growth and it has been doing so for 35 years. We have just had the two largest decades of LEGAL IMMIGRATION in our history. From 1990 to 2010 we had 27 million LEGAL IMMIGRANTS enter this country. This does not include their US born children.

We bring in 1.1 million LEGAL IMMIGRANTS a year compared to an average of 195,000 per year from 1921-1970. In 1970 one in 21 was foreign-born; today, it is one in 8, the highest in 90 years; and within a decade, it will be one in 7, the highest in our history.

Just asking - does the figure include retirees, or only people of working age, e.g., under 65? If the figure includes retirees, they would need to be backed out in order to see the true numbers of working-age people who have dropped out.

That’s what I’ve been wondering. These statistics don’t mean much without an age breakdown.

“No one, but no one, is hiring anyone over 55.”

I am in my late 40s and am concerned about the age thing in my future. Thinking my next step would be to start a business but as one gets older, the fear of a financial screw up and not having the time to make up for it is scary.

And, of course, now the stock market is tumbling, which is going to probably wreck my retirement funds!

The George Washington bridge in NYC has had to put up a special fence because of the suicides. This has got to be directly related to the economy. 35% of Americans are in collection. What a legacy for that bastard in Washington.

Good luck with you, btw. You’re still young and the economy can recover with a decent, good man in the WH!

In the ongoing Baraqqi Depression, employers have all the leverage. So yes, if you’re old, it’s gonna be a problem.

In a decent economy, experienced folks would be at a premium.
I remember when guys would retire and immediately start getting calls from recruiters for similar work.

Well actually I think it would be more accurate to say the workforce left 11,472,000 Americans behind after mr. mulato took office.

“and guess who took their jobs. msm left out the word ILLEGAL.”

I would venture that most of those 11Mil jobs were lost through downsizing. We are in a depression er jobless recovery. There are likely close to 11 million less jobs out there. Illegals only do the low end stuff and a lot of it for cash so the govt does not even know about it. Although they have stolen the construction and a lot of the processing plant jobs.

I’m trying to figure out what miracle will have to be performed to build up 11 million new jobs.

I have been laid off twice since Obama became Pres. The first time was in June of 2009. Didn’t find a job until Nov.
I went from making $30 an hr to $19.50 an hr. Then in Jan of 2010 the company that laid me off asked me to come back to work, but at a lower pay than before. They offered $24 an hr. I jumped all over it. Sadly, I was laid off again in June of 2011. Found another job that I love doing but the pay sucked. $16.47 an hr. Took it any way, and 3 years later I’ve been promoted twice and am now making $31 an hr.
I consider myself one of the lucky ones, I’ve been able to recover. I feel bad for those who haven’t.
