The French lost at Dien Bien Phu because they underestimated the physical capabilities of their opponents. The "weak asians" won at Dien Bien Phu because they dragged heavy artillery and anti-aircraft guns through the jungle and up the sides of mountains. Had the French thought the Viet Minh were capable of doing those tasks they would have secured the high ground.The actions of the French made their attitudes very plain.
I can only cite historical examples, I don't have anything as compelling as your exhaustive study of a couple of asian furniture movers.
