Turkey, Qatar foiled Cairo’s cease-fire proposal [Israel and Hamas]
Haaretz ^ | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 | Jack Khoury

Posted on 07/16/2014 3:04:23 PM PDT by Star Traveler

Haaretz learned that Lieberman told Borg Brende, Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is visiting Israel, that Hamas lied when it said Cairo had not sent it the cease-fire proposal, which Israel initially accepted.

He said Egyptian intelligence officials had given the details of the initiative to Mousa Abu-Marzook, head of the Hamas mission in Cairo.

Meanwhile, Israel agreed on Wednesday night to a request from Robert Serry, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East for UNRWA, to a five-hour cease-fire on Thursday in order to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

“Hamas was ready to consider the Egyptian proposal favorably but Qatar wanted to screw the Egyptians and told them not to accept it,” Lieberman told Brende, Haaretz learned.

He said all Qatar’s moves were coordinated with Turkey and both these states are pushing Hamas leaders not to accept the Egyptian proposals.

A senior Israeli official said that Khaled Meshal, head of Hamas’ political bureau, prefers the Qatari—Turkish mediation to Egypt’s brokerage. Meshal is close both to Qatar’s emir and to Turkey’s Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. Israel prefers Egypt as negotiator, especially due to its shaky relations with Turkey and severed relations with Qatar.

Israel worked with Egypt to get this cease-fire and Israel agreed to accept it. It sounds like Turkey was messing around behind the scenes to sabotage it. In the meantime, after Turkey sabotaged Egypt and Israel's working together, Turkey comes out on the news and says that it (Turkey) wants to be the "new broker" of a cease-fire. What a bunch of idiots in Turkey!

Surely Hamas is not trying to find excuse in their advice-givers from Turkey or Qatar! Do they not accept responsibility for their own, final decisions?

Do note, however, the One's close relationship to Turkey's Erdogan. And because of the Gitmo hand-off, similar good relations with the Qataris. Maybe Hamas felt it was advice they could not refuse.

Hamas is a real beggar these days and has to take hand-outs from wherever they can. They’re not able to thumb their noses at the very few patrons they have left ... LOL ...

Not so much the Palestinian civilians themselves, but rather Hamas, because of their complicity with the Muslim Brotherhood in trying to take over Egypt!

Egyptians Hoping Israel Will Destroy Hamas
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3181177/posts

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi has thus far turned down appeals from Palestinians and other Arabs to work toward achieving a new ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Palestinian Authority [PA] President Mahmoud Abbas telephoned Sisi and urged him to intervene to achieve an “immediate ceasefire” between Israel and Hamas. Abbas later admitted that his appeal to Sisi and (other Arab leaders) had fallen on deaf ears.

Sisi’s decision not to intervene in the current crisis did not come as a surprise. In fact, Sisi and many Egyptians seem to be delighted that Hamas is being badly hurt.

Some Egyptians are even openly expressing hope that Israel will completely destroy Hamas, which they regard as the “armed branch of the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organization.”

Sisi’s Egypt has not forgiven Hamas for its alliance with Muslim Brotherhood and its involvement in terrorist attacks against Egyptian civilians and soldiers over the past year.

The Egyptians today understand that Hamas and other radical Islamist groups pose a serious threat to their national security. That is why the Egyptian authorities have, over the past year, been taking tough security measures not only against Hamas, but also the entire population of the Gaza Strip.

2:30 P.M. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas leaves Turkey for an unplanned visit to Qatar, to meet with the Qatari emir and with Hamas’ Khaled Meshal. Abbas says he has convinced the Qataris to go along with the Egyptian cease-fire proposal. (Jack Khoury)

Egypt wants Abbas and the Palestinian Authority to control the Gaza side of the Egyptian-Gaza border, and NOT Hamas. This would be a way for Abbas to get back in the door in gaining control over Gaza once again!

Israel already agreed to that and would like to see that, just like Egypt would.

And it was Turkey and Qatar that sabotaged the deal last time. Abbas wants “back in the door” over in a Gaza and to diminish the control of Hamas!

The Egyptian Army is sick of taking it on the chin for the spoiled brat Palestinians. There is little sympathy for the Palestinians among a wide swath of the Egyptian population, who lives and livelihoods have been turned upside down while the Palestinians have been the treated like pampered pets with Western largess.

As has been presented in the news articles posted, and which is not speculative, this has been directed at Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. In fact Egypt BLAMES Hamas for killing Palestinians ... and just that alone indicates that they are distinguishing between the Palestinian civilians and Hamas.

I think there is a distinction between a public posture and actual sentiment.
