What do we do about this massive flood of people entering the United States illegally? Like many, I am turning this question over in my mind as I witness the lawless chaos that is unfolding at the border, and beyond.
We have legal channels for people to immigrate to America. Were not operating in a vacuum. There is no reason for those in power to ignore our immigration laws. Unless, of course, you want to fundamentally transform America.
When the rule of law is not enforced, where does that leave us?
[SNIP]
Congressman Louie Gohmert has reminded us that another result of the progressive embrace of illegals swarming our country is that it will go a long way toward turning Texas (and all of America) blue.
So what do we do?
As to illegals flooding our border, many say, send them back.
Sounds good. How exactly does that work, for example, with an unaccompanied 6-year-old? Do you ask him for his address? Then what? Put him on a plane destined for the nearest city to the address he gave?
The fate of thousands upon thousands of abandoned children is in our hands. They were abandoned in their country of origin, but now they are here. What is our moral and legal obligation to these children who are being used as political pawns?
As for the adults, families, and who knows how many dangerous characters that have leaked across our southern border, it is sheer madness to put them on buses and planes and sprinkle them throughout the United States. And anybody who defends this by saying they have been given dates to show up in court to review their case is simply insane.

The kids are coming from Central American countries and Mexico where there is nothing but poverty, government incompetence and failure, cultural breakdown, anarchy, corruption, abuse, ignorance, molestation, filth and starvation. Just look at them. They come for our Dream Act, the land of endless handouts, showers, healthcare, food, drug gangs, Democrats, Obama phones, housing, violence, hate, and revolution.
....”What is our moral and legal obligation to these children who are being used as political pawns?”....
No obligation whatsoever......bus them back their own country.
Further...only 18% are “children”...and often if with an adult at all he was kidnapped in order to get over the border. Even so...send him home.
I have no compassion toward those coming in regardless of their “story”.....they need to be returned to their country.
Basic medical care.
A hot meal.
Transportation to the Embassy of their country of origin in DC.
That’s it.
Since the U.S. government is the agency foisting this unwanted herd across our borders, I believe that every American ought to be involved, with SENDING THEM BACK!
Our moral obligation extends only to treating them humanely while expeditiously returning them to their homes.
Diplomatically, we need to lay down an ultimatum to the countries that are facilitating this invasion: take care of your own borders or we will withdraw all aid and halt all commerce with you. And immigration from your countries will be indefinitely suspended. And you will be assessed the costs of caring for the invaders plus the costs of returning them to your country.
Not my children, not your children
Send them back, let their real parents take care of them. They brought them into the world, the Latin American world, not America’s world.
Get them out, now. Cut off all aid to Mexico until it stops these trains, etc from passing thru its territory. Mexico is aiding and abetting Obama.
Avoid Mexico at all costs. No tourism, no purchase of products produced there. Screw these b*******
then maybe we ask why liberals are embarrassed to fly and wear our flag, and insist on English language, in the public schools these teaming masses will occupy
Just maybe the Central American 'authorities' and those in Mexico and perhaps our own ICE, DHS and DHH have a piece of the action, the vig? Those kids did not get to the border on their bikes.
We? "We" have no say in it. Those in power are going to let them stay, give them amnesty, and "we" are going to pay for it. They don't get a d*** what "we" think about it.
As for the six-year-olds and all the others, don't even let them pass the border. Then Mexico will have to deal with them. Word will soon get out and they'll stop coming. Not that that is likely to happen.
If American runaway children were flooding Canada or Mexico by the 10's of thousands, what do you think either country would do ?
What are the moral and legal obligations of their countries of origin?
I notice the news is full of faith groups touting our obligations to the children. It seems to me that expressions of charity are only righteous if they are done on a personal level. Forcing me to pay for your charitable contributions through higher school taxes, increased medical costs and increasing deficits is just theft.
Our moral obligation is to feed them and send them back home. Our legal obligation is to protect our citizens. That’s about the end of it.
Strongly disagree. Reunification of families is the responsibility of the country of origin, NOT ours. I believe marron's solution is right on target: return the children to their countries' airports and drop them off.
Reverse the situation. If American families abandoned their children and sent them to Guatemala, would it be Guatemala's obligation to reunify each child with its parents? Of course not.
Last night, Sean Hannity talked to two Catholic Charities members---one a nun, the other the head of the organization. He asked them repeatedly if the best thing for the children wasn't to send them back to their parents, and he had a difficult time getting an answer. The nun said we need to go these countries and improve conditions for those who live there.
Sean opined that the U.S. can't be responsible for the entire world, and those two sat there with goofy grins on their faces as if they couldn't comprehend what he meant.
RE: Transportation to the Embassy of their country of origin in DC.
Can their embassies in DC house tens of thousands of them?
RE: The nun said we need to go these countries and improve conditions for those who live there.
I agree with the nun. But first things first — SEND THEM HOME. Then, send missionaries to help them improve their conditions IN THEIR COUNTRY.
RE: I notice the news is full of faith groups touting our obligations to the children. It seems to me that expressions of charity are only righteous if they are done on a personal level.
Two step process.
1) SEND THEM HOME.
2) THEN, Encourage Faith Based groups to go to their countries and HELP THEM.
I’d donate to #2 and even volunteer to spend a few months there.
For all of them, from toddler to teen: bus them to the border crossing and let them off. Its a Mexican problem.
She's right. She, her church, churches all across America could do well sending people there to do what they can to help. They could even organize volunteers to go with the children and meet the families, and organize a ministry to help them.
Just don't forget that these countries are sovereign, the kids' parents are adults, the constituted authorities are adults, and they have the primary responsibility in this.
Their kids are their responsibility. As Christians we can help them... but that doesn't include hosting a mass migration of people from their home countries or hosting their kids. Help the families if you feel led. But help them in their home community. Separating kids from their families is not an answer. And as I say, hosting a mass migration isn't either.
