Former FCC chairman Reed Hundt is suggesting the FCC may want to strip Redskins owner Dan Snyder of his radio station licenses if he does not change the name of the team.
According to an interview on Indian Country Today Media Network, Hundt said that the FCC should "reevaluate" whether Snyder is fit to be a licensee, by which Hundt meant "a person of appropriate character," he said.
“The FCC should consider whether Mr. Snyder is fit to own radio station licenses given that he uses radio stations to broadcast an ethnic slur,” he said. “These licenses are owned by the public and they are given to individuals for the purpose of serving the public interest.

funny you say that...I’m a St John’s grad, went through school on a track scholarship during the recent heyday of St John’s basketball with Lou Carnesecca and Chris Mullen....we used to be known as the Redmen and the mascot was some guy running around in full indian headress...it was great...
when the PC police hit the scene in the 90’s with Clinton they changed the mascot to some guy wearing a red tuxedo...they finally changed the name from Redmen to Redstorm and St John’s basketball has sucked ever since never mind they had to drop the mens track program due to title nine...

Using the excuse of a racial slur should shut down some black radio stations.
Looks like Former FCC chairman Reed Hundt needs to convince the current chairman to pull the FCC licenses from ALL radio stations which broadcast Rap “music”, since each “uses radio stations to broadcast an ethnic slur” (the infamous “N” word, which appears to constitute a major of the lyrics of many Rap performances) as well as numerous sexist/misogynistic terms.

I think the “next” Kansas City CHIEF’s mascot should be a man dress in the uniform of a U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer, complete with ribbons on the left chest.
The navy CHIEF is the “heart of the fleet” and would be quite deserving of the honor.
OOOH..how about the REDSKINS changing their name to the GUNNERS, in honor of the Gunnery Sargents of the U.S. Marine Corps. That would be one hell of game.
I cannot recall the term “Redskin” being used in a disparaging manner by anyone. Has anyone heard another person using that term by, for example, saying “Senator Warren, that dirty Redskin” or words to that effect?
I have heard “Hail to the Redskins” being sung at Washington football games, however.
