Lois Lerner Emails: Nothing Digital Ever Dies
RealClearPolitics ^ | June 19, 2014 | Carl M. Cannon

In 2007, while co-writing a magazine piece with Silicon Valley author and entrepreneur Michael S. Malone on best Information Age practices for politicians, I coined a phrase Malone instantly dubbed “the Cannon Codicil.”

Postulating that electronic messages, like diamonds, last for forever, Cannon’s codicil simply holds that “Nothing digital ever dies.”

This is what the leftist “base” wants.

Correct-o. One pair of my in-laws are rabid Dems. The guy, although a lazy shirker, does know something about IT. His attitude would be that "of course the emails aren't lost, but this is in a good cause." Then he'd go on about how heartless Republicans are, and how Dems have a heart. And, then he'd check to see what benefits he was eligible for.

JFK thought that, for one...

Those who make non-violent revolution impossible (ie, block all non-violent means of correcting gov’t corruption)
make violent revolution inevitable.

_I’m_ certainly not calling for it, I’m just warning those who are making it inevitable that it is, indeed, inevitable.

> The smoking guns are gone.

Have no doubt that somebody, somewhere, kept a copy for self insurance purpose.

I can just hear the supervisors talking to the IT people ... “Look, but don’t look too hard!”

They got the message!

Throw the ENTIRE leadership of the IRS into the slammer for knowingly destroying evidence

That would be a real good crisis. What ordinary taxpaying US citizen would object to throwing the entire IRS leadership in jail?

I was put into a situation like this a while back when I was an Exchange administrator. We had an executive who was caught with kiddie porn on his laptop and was summarily fired. Our manager was very good friends with the guy. When HR came around asking for email records, I was put into a situation where my direct manager asked me to “take my time,” while HR was going ballistic over the possibility that the records were “lost.”

We provided a report that showed the record range they wanted was in offsite storage. They requested the backups, and we reanimated the data and provided it to HR. Our manager resigned 2 days later before the bombshell came out that the two of them were running a child pornography website from the corporate network.

Those were an interesting couple of months.

How about a subpoena for all email accounts of everyone Lerner sent an email to, and all those accounts holders that sent an email to Lerner.

There are two copies of every email, one in the originators account, and one in the recipients account. Subpoena the non-Lerner account copies of the emails in question.

Nothing digital ever dies? Try finding a copy or clip of that news coverage story of the first Clinton campaign that included video of Clinton with his hand between the stewardess’ legs. Down the wormhole it went.

How about a subpoena for all email accounts of everyone Lerner sent an email to...

That's the problem. We don't know for sure who she sent email to outside of the IRS (although we suspect).

I rather doubt they are totally gone. If true, there is likely a team of savvy geeks who know the truth as well as a “trail” somewhere (work orders etc). Also, highly likely someone nabbed a copy as someone noted below.

"of course the emails aren't lost, but this is in a good cause."

There's always an excuse for the criminality. And people who support the excuses.

In the Soviet Union, Lenin's excuse for the police state was that "freedom is so precious it must be rationed".

In Nazi Germany the excuse for hassling the Jews was that they "were just trying to improve society".

There's always an excuse.

It was not suddenly bred.
It will not swiftly abate.
Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the English began to hate.

Congress spent how many billions developing the Obamacare medical exchange websites for the feds and each state. Surely they can find some IT support contractor to do this. Just about every federal installation I’m familiar with has and IT contractor services 24/7.

When I was in private practice our company’s entire network system crashed which held emails and all project files. It cost the company $100,000 and took a month but those guys came in and started from scratch restoring basic services first and the more complex ones came later. WE never lost one file!

The original network was setup by a self professed IT specialist who had started with the company when they first moved to the computer age and the system was developed over a number of years and as the each new version of software came out he would have to figure out his previous mess so it could take the new programming all unbeknownst to management because it was all black box stuff. Then he quit and took a job with the University of Washington and within a month with no one there to keep it together the wheels came off.

Since then I have made it a point to direct my IT staff to develop manuals to prevent this from ever happening again and so they can trace where the problem may occur without having to bring in the outside consultants.

Another "they don't get it" article. As usual, the conservatives have the facts, logic, and competence in our favor and we make an articulate and intelligent argument.

And we get our asses kicked.

Unless the GOP is willing to play hardball and put Lerner and many of her accomplices in jail, then nothing will happen. Nothing may happen even if they do that.

This one of those lies that they think if they tell it long enough through the mouths of enough mindless people like the Senator from Utah then people they hope will believe it.

“Nothing digital ever dies.”

A former employee found that out the hard way. The IT experts found his deleted emails on our servers. Nothing but porn emails on a government server. Needless to say, he got a #12 boot up his posterior and out the door he went.

Gone in the sense of College transcripts and birth records. When they surface it won’t matter anyway.
