At least Saddam kept the animals in line.
I was real naive back when we went in there...Now I realize that Saddam was just par for the course in that part of the world, just like Assad in Syria.
You notice how stable those places were when Dictators kept the rabid animals in line....
Saddam, Ghadaffi, Assad, Mubarak all total B*****ds but it makes you realise now there are worse options out there looking at libya, iraq right now.
You are right. It was a nice utopian central planning idea. It sounded good. If we could transplant Jeffersonian democracy there we would be safe From terrorists who fly planes into buildings and burn up and kill our fellow citizens.
Much like every top-down central planning idea, it sounds good in theory, but it just doesn’t work because of unintended consequences that a human mind cannot fathom.
I said from the very beginning that we can’t win this ‘war’ because we won’t fight to win. We haven’t fought a war to win since WWII. It was the same in Viet Nam. We sacrificed lives then quit, cut off funding and Saigon fell. It will happen again in Iraq and Afghanistan. We never learn.
I can’t tell you how many serious arguments I went through in 2003 over a beer with my “let’s go to war cake walk in Iraq buddies” and make a new democracy. We’re still buddies and they tend to be more mellow now and understand that conservatism is not blindly waging war and selling out our economy to China, but keeping our nation sovereign and economically strong and creating opportunities for every American willing to produce.
Open borders only reduces and dilutes opportunities for Americans. My biggest concern is the same conniving thieves that created the Iraq fiasco will turn Americans against each other and purposely create
anarchy. They are experts at brainwashing clueless people.
Too many conservatives have allowed the thieving lying politicians and media corporatists to define their beliefs.
