SIERRA VISTA Parents and families with young children are invited to the Mall at Sierra Vista Saturday morning to hunt for some of the 10,000 eggs filled with candy and prizes.
I cant find them all by myself, said Ken James, who coordinates Sierra Vista Leisure and Library Servicess annual Easter Eggstravaganza.
He recommends parents bring an Easter basket or something to carry the prizes and treats offered at free carnival games and Easter egg hunts, which start at 9 a.m.
Otherwise mom and dads hands get full real quick, James said.
In its third year at the mall, the event remains free of charge thanks to community sponsors and volunteers from Buena High School who help staff it.
Last year approximately 4,000 to 5,000 people came to the two-hour event, James said. This time around theres some new activities for the kids to try, plus all the standards of the long-standing Easter celebration.
People can take photos with the Easter Bunny anytime from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, long after the Eggstravaganza is over. Its free to take photos yourself but a professional photographer is available for a fee.
Set for the weekend prior to Easter, the event aims to provide family fun without disrupting other plans for the holiday, James said.

I love it. Not a single mention of the offended Muslim. Just lots of fun, prizes, humor and happiness.
I’ve gotten so that I cringe at the idea of a free public event. Here in KCMO they tried that with our zoo and ended up with riots and shots being fired. Too many people not going to a job every day and having a multigenerational sense of entitlement.
BTW, happy Easter.
Lol. Reminds me of the Easters with wife and son. Lots of happy memories. What angers me the most is that some people want to take that away. But I won't say any more about it. I want to preserve the great feelings that I have right now.
When my daughter was first born, we tried a few “free” events.
Lets just say I did not fell very safe or comfortable at them. When you see a woman punch a kid so her child can get a free pumpkin, it isn’t worth it.
So we belong to a local museum. The price is less than $100 for a year, and since nothing is free it cuts out a lot of the trouble makers.
Out here, I don’t even go to free Fourth of July fireworks. It just isn’t safe.
It is a sight to see — 100 parents with as many kids jumping into a roped off area with 100s of little plastic Easter eggs, and inside, $5, $10 prizes, and car wash coupons. The frenzy is kind of scary when you think about it.
The City stopped sponsoring the event because they were concerned about injuries.
Come and visit us and happy times again.
Good. Have fun. Nothing Christian about an egg hunt. Some people are offended because it has the word “Easter” in the name. Too bad for them.
