The latest news in Washington is that Republicans are now positioned to win a majority in the U.S. Senate this year.
Republicans need a net gain of 6 seats to win a majority and, according to the new Cook Political Report predictions, there are now 8 Democratic seats that fall into the Toss-up, Lean Republican, or Likely Republican categories.
So what happens if Republicans win a Senate majority?
Will Republicans stop Obamacare? Will they refuse to raise the debt limit and force the Democrats to balance the budget? Will they stop bloated farm bills that fund unrelated programs? Will they end corporate welfare programs like the Export-Import Bank, which forces taxpayers to support Russian companies?
It depends on the kind of majority we elect. If we elect more moderate Republicans, we can expect more debt, higher taxes, and permanent Obamacare. But if we elect true conservatives, we can stop these policies.
GET READY FOR THE EXCUSES
Republicans in Washington are already beginning to downplay expectations for what they can accomplish with a Senate majority.
According to Mike Allen at Politico, "Republicans are starting to worry about an expectations gap if they control the entire Capitol, arguing that it would still be difficult for a conservative Republican House and a moderate Republican Senate to pass ambitious legislation."
Lucy FootballSadly, these excuses are part of an all too familiar game. Establishment politicians refuse to stand up for our principles today, but promise to fight for them at some point in the future. When that day comes, they make more excuses and repeat their empty promises to fight another day.
It's time for conservatives to stop falling for the Lucy and the football trick and start electing people who share our values. We're not the Republican Party's useful idiots.

They will do nothing. Nothing will change. What incentive do they have to change? None.

Not one dimes worth of difference. The RINOs will be power sharing with their good friends the ‘Rats.
I suspect the GOP-e will sabotage the candidacies of conservatives facing incumbent dems in the general election enough to keep the gains in the 4-5 range.
IMHO nothing will change until we go outside the Republican Party. It's never going to change. Never. They and their Democrat "colleagues" are destroying the country together. We need a third party that stands for conservative principles.

Cook PR says 8. I say 9. AR, AK, CO, LA, MI, MT, NC, SD and WV. Anybody wanna bet a RC Cola and an Moon Pie?
I’m thinking the SCF has given up on defeating Lindsey Lou in SC. I hope not. I think there will be a run-off in SC. Maybe they’ll jump in then. Anybody have a clue?

I agree. At least then, the GOP Establishment will rue the day that Mitch McConnell treated us like an AIDS infested crack whore. How about “THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF AMERICA”?
