Geneva (AFP) - Last year tied for the sixth-hottest on record, confirming that Earth's climate system is in the grip of warming that will affect generations to come, the UN's weather agency said Wednesday.
"This is confirmation of the trend of global warming of the planet," World Meteorological Organization (WMO) chief Michel Jarraud told AFP.
Last year equalled 2007 as the sixth-warmest year since reliable records began in 1850, with a global land and ocean surface temperature that was 0.5 degrees Celsius (0.9 degrees Fahrenheit) above the 1961-1990 average, the WMO said in a statement.

Do these people ever get tired of lying? Even the alarmists are conceding there has been no appreciable warming for going on 17 years. They now call it the “pause.” Yeah, right. Can your models predict if or when the pause will end?

Where? Last Summer was pretty hot, but that’s normal for S Texas. The Summer before was almost cool. And here we all are, dang near freezing to death. (that wind is COLD!)

Remember the difference between weather and climate.
When particular temps every where are colder, that is weather. But when you add them together and average them to be the warmest year on record, THAT is climate.
Even the (meant-to-be-scarey) graphics in the article confirm your statement — 2013 was cooler than 1998.
My guess is up until around 1980ish all weather stations were probably using mercury thermometers.
They won't as long as a complicit media acts as a megaphone for their Big Lies. There's a political agenda to be maintained at all costs. Truth and facts mean nothing to these zealots.
Up until 1980, I think most thermometers had to be eyeballed by some guy who wrote the reading down on paper. You really think the guy is actually going to go out there in a blizzard? Or is he just going to write down something that looks reasonable?
As if somehow “global warming” proves human intervention (”auto emissions”, etc.). As if we have to somehow prove there’s no “global warming” to prove no effective human intervention. Let’s not agree that the global warming premise means that government now has an Agenda 21 excuse to interfere more in our lives. And don’t agree with the Agenda 21 “sustainability” nonsense. God made this planet well able to handle all of man’s needs with plenty to spare. These are all excuses for totalitarian government rule.
