John Elway, former American football quarterback and is now the executive vice president of football operations for the Denver Broncos, was asked on FOX News Sunday why he was a Republican.
“Well, those are what my beliefs are. I believe you know as a country that we are given the opportunity to succeed or not succeed. And, I think for us to be able to, I don’t believe in safety nets, obviously we have to have some kind of safety nets, but I think… My philosophy is when you’re given the opportunity you take advantage of that and I think that’s when you get the best out of people.”
Elway went on to say he has no plans on running for public office. The Denver Broncos are playing in Super Bowl XLVIII tonight in New Jersey.

He should run for the Senate. CO deserves a good Senator who is a winner.

You never heard about him in the off season..unless he was at a Hockey or Basketball game…He did like expensive cars..

There is nothing wrong with safety nets….they have to be limited and not expanded…like unemployment ..I think it was like six weeks when it first started..now under the Rats and RINOS it is forever.,.,.

Is it asking too much for a Republican candidate who has a command of the English language? One who doesn't contradict himself in the space of one sentence?
And according to many sources over the years, loose women.
I suspect he knows that...think a little bit, and you may get the point...
No big deal if she or he didn’t, I don’t expect everybody knows what John Elway looks like. I actually had to Google it because I didn’t think Elway had aged that much to look like Jack Kemp!
I watched the interview clip and my guess is Elway is more aligned with the beltway Vichy Republicans than us here at FR.
Safety nets used to be there as a temporary measure when someone found themselves in a difficult situation without other means of support. Now, it seems to be used to quell possible civil unrest from government policies causing difficult financial situations en masse. Therefore any possible solutions to these policies are being halted by the government itself in order to continue with the failed policies which are benefitting the few at the cost of the many. Until these policies are changed, our economy with continue to languish.
If Denver wins today, Elway will have done what no football player has ever achieved. He really owes it to good people of Colorado to take his talents and values to the U.S. Senate, where he would be a formidable obstacle for the Commie RATs.
Elway is also a refugee from his native state of California. He played high school football at Granada Hills High School and college football at Stanford. Elway, Tiger Woods, and John Lynch are a few of the native born high income athletes who got the hell out of Taxifornia. Maybe that 11% marginal California income tax rate has something to do with it.
Elway is an egotistical SOB. First, he drafts Tim Tebow with no intention of playing him. When Kyle Orton (yes, the same signed by Dallas in December)proves less than adequate, he is forced to play Tebow, who does nothing but win.
What does Elway do? He gets rid of Tebow so he can sign Peyton Manning, fresh off a season long injury and rehab. Manning is going to the Super Bowl with a chance to do something nobody has ever done - lead two different franchises to Super Bowl victory.
What’s Elway’s response? He won’t be the greatest quarterback ever. Greatest is in the eye of the beholder.
Yep, good RINO.
Entitlements are forever. Once established, they will only expand over time.
So why is he not a Tea partier.
I was wrong. He was eloquent, clearly very intelligent, had a great sense of humor and even of humility, and a very common-sense way of enjoying the challenge (learning to drive race cars from pro trainers) in front of him. Then and there I figured, "I bet this guy's a conservative." He just had that take, that joyous approach, to life. Then again, I've met several pro football players and basketball players and they were ALL unusually (I thought) intelligent and I would bet money, conservative. Somebody who is a human Clydesdale and a world-class athlete, is also probably going to be pretty damned smart, even if his general demeanor is of a big dumb ape!
