Boy Scouts announce annual membership fee increase for 2014, raising questions . . .

[T]he BSA, which is based in Irving, announced last week that it is raising annual membership dues from $15 to $24 per Scout — a 60 percent increase — beginning Jan. 1, 2014.

Chief Scout Executive Wayne Brock . . . and BSA staff did not mention how much revenue might be lost from the defection of conservative families that leave the organization because of recent membership changes that allow [homosexual] youth to be Scouts.

. . .

The BSA once boasted of five million members back in the 1950s when the United States’ population was about half of what it is today. BSA now claims 2.2 million members. And it will be interesting to see whether headquarters will openly acknowledge how many members remain after annual registration for 2014.

Like the guy in Life of Brian who wants to be a woman and have babies, teh gheys don’t want to join scouts as yutes. They want the RIGHT to join scouts as yutes.

No doubt, donations are down. Adding high heels and makeup to the uniform made expenses sky rocket.

Membership, membership, membership is the glue for organizations like this. Change the type of people you are encouraging to join and watch the defections.

I would surmise that outside of the joy of going on camping trips with pretty young boys - and paying for the s’mores, the gays will not contribute one dime to this organization.

Back in the 50s and 60s, I’d say about 70% of boys were Scouts, mostly those who lived on farms couldn’t join. Now I suspect it will become a sanctuary for misfits who join just because it’s become a place to hang out with other misfits. I love traditions and the Boy Scouts did me a lot of good (as well as teaching me a lot of bad habits), but now I would welcome their demise. When an organization loses its way and becomes something foreign to it’s mission, it’s time for it to go.

“The BSA once boasted of five million members back in the 1950s when the United States’ population was about half of what it is today. BSA now claims 2.2 million members.”

Being a Boy Scout once meant something. Something good and decent. Now it means weak leadership that bends to pressure from homosexual activists and means an acceptance of perversion. The BSA will be lucky to have a million members nationwide in 5 years..

The Rump Rangers will probably keep the Woodworking. Just tweak the format a bit.

The only thing that the homos will contribute to BSA (aka Rump Rangers) is it’s total degeneration and demise.

No boys from our family will be joining this once proud organization.

Is it possible that there are dumb Americans who will contribute their boys to this organization not knowing what is going on? I shudder to think.

Chief Scout Executive Wayne Brock may have announced it to the Top Hands Meeting just "last week", but this is old news. My two units (Boy Scouts and Venturing) rechartered the first week of December at the new $24 rate.

Yes, it shows the financial fallout of the gay issue. First, you have who oppose the new policy dropping out of or no longer financially supporting the BSA. Second, you have corporate sponsors who no longer sponsor the BSA because it hasn't gone all the way to accepting openly gay Scout leaders.

This isn't going to be a quick death. Chartered organizations have the final say on who they accept as leaders, and unless state or other law requires them to accept gay leaders, many chartered organizations aren't going to accept openly gay leaders even if the BSA accepts them.

How does it affect my units? We can control access to our Scouts when we camp alone, but District or Council overnight events are now out of our control - and out of our scheduled program.

Yeah, I joined in the 50’s, went on a camp out in a forest I knew well. Scout master, wanted to walk out in the wrong direction. I told the other Scouts he did not know what he was doing and to follow me. they all did. Then the Scout Master ordered them to form a beating line(where two rows of scouts brandishing branches) Ordered me through it twice.

2/3 still followed me out and resigned the next day.

The remaining camped out by our HS later that year, and us revolters loaded up with bear bait(bottles of rotted fish) and raided them throwing it on and in their tents.

Damn that was fun!

I hate to say it, but the reason for declining membership may be the reverse.

It’s too soon to tell whether the stupid, immoral decision to admit OPENLY gay boys to the organization will kill it. It will certainly shake things up. Gay boys could always join, but they had to keep quiet about it, at least while they were on Boy Scout expeditions.

I think the long-term decline happened because so many families no longer want their kids to learn traditional values. The Girl Scouts went over long ago, but the Boy Scouts stayed traditional, and basically Christian. That pleased its remaining members, but likely caused a lot of liberal families to lose interest.

Those opposing the Boy Scouts of America allowing gays to become scout masters —scout or whatever (by court order nonetheless)have a solution —form your own church (congregation) based scouting group. I am sure plenty of guys in these congregations were once scouts. They can do and give everything that the Boys Scouts would give the kids. By the time the lefties catch up to them with lawsuits —it will be a couple of years. So you have a bit of breathing room for a few years....at least I hope.

From our scouting experience three years ago I can tell you for a fact that that is exactly what is happening. My kids are jocks anyway, the whole experience with those cheap money hungry weirdos was just wrong for us.

The Progressives have been trying to dismantle this and other faith-based organizations for years and yes, they won a battle against the BSA, but I’ll be damned if knee-jerk emotional reactions to it force me to aid and abet them winning the war.

My son will stay a scout. He’s a better person for it. They all are.

Good. They should’ve dropped the corporate sponsors who forced the gay lifestyle on them. Selling out BSA for greed was just plain wrong.

Same for our troop. Our youngest is working on his Eagle, after he finishes, we’re done. We’ve only left him in because we know the leadership, are actively involved, and know when they walk, it’s beyond help. Our boys will no longer be doing council events and summer camp is going to revert to our troop only as was one in times past when money was tight. We are blessed that we have a lot of very godly men in leadership and a large troop.
