The father of a 17-year-old girl who was fatally shot at her suburban Denver high school said Wednesday that he and his wife have forgiven the killer, and he asked others to do the same.
Michael Davis said at a memorial service for his daughter Claire that the killer was blinded by anger and didn't know what he was doing.
"My wife and I forgive Karl Pierson for what he did," Davis said. "We would ask all of you here and all of you watching to forgive Karl Pierson. He didn't know what he was doing."

I don’t get why Davis is “full of crap”. Did I miss something in the article?
I would not forgive.
Every person grieves in a different way. I imagine that I would not be so forgiving. In fact, I would probably have the exact opposite reaction.
And is Mr. Davis willing for the State to forgive his daughters killer and set him free without a trial and with no consequences?
Forgiveness is like a loaded gun. Handle it carefully and do not be so reckless and foolish with it.
Mr. David didn’t have the opportunity of purposeful rage. Both his daughter and her killer are now dead. This may be his way of trying to come to terms with the hard facts of this murder. To remain publicly outraged would accomplish nothing. Outraged at whom? for what? at this point. He may be playing it strong and stoic in order to support the remaining family members, who are, at this point still way too upset to say anything to any snooping reporter.
As a Christian I believe we are to forgive folks who honestly and sincerely request it. True repentance must exist, and no penalty should be lessened in the process. NONE! (on this earth)
Now, as an individual at a time late enough after the death of the daughter, the parent may be moved to be forgiving personally.
Not waiting very long, and publicly professing forgiveness, amounts to nothing less than complete buffoonery and the ultimate betrayal of the daughter.
He may be trying to be a good Christian, but his daughter deserves better than this.
Karl Pierson killed himself after the shooting so forgiveness is about the only thing the Davis family would have left.

The point is still valid though. At what point does forgivess goes from a loving and Christ-like behavior and devolves into lunacy?
I will forgive mistakes. Unintentional wrong doing. Evil? No. I will not forgive Evil. We must begin to stand against Evil or it will eventually overtake us..
At this point, what difference does it make?
What good would strangers forgiving a killer be?
The killer will be judged by Him who is the Perfect Judge.
There's a petition to issue her Diploma posthumously. I don't have a problem with that.
I could imagine praying that God have Mercy on the killers soul. But ME forgive the bastard in the absence of a plea by the bastard for forgiveness? Nope.
Forgiveness is more for the forgiver than the forgiven.
Forgiveness is letting go of anger and hatred. Forgiveness is something you do for yourself to keep you from becoming an angry hate filled and possibly violent person. Forgiveness is not a one time thing you do it over and over again when ever you need to, because it is not easy to forget the pain, sorrow and grieve that one has experienced, but by forgiving one can walk in peace and faith. And if the culprit (in this case murdering sob) was still alive, one could forgive him, but still pray he was found guilty and received the death sentence. Just because you forgive doesn’t mean you don’t want justice. In this case the culprit skipped the trial and killed himself. Her parents are right to be an example of forgiveness. If this murderous young man had been forgiving of the offending teacher and not raging against their discourse and he might not have killed this young woman and then himself while searching for the object of his rage, the teacher. He may have tolerated responding with seething rage. God Bless her parents may they find comfort and peace in their forgiving.
Has this been done for fallen soldiers, is there a precedent? If the young lady was due to graduate this winter, then, perhaps so. At 17, she was likely a Junior or Senior. I graduated at 17, so it does happen.
Our only son was killed by a drunk driver that was his own age.
It was not an intentional act, just poor judgement.
We forgave him and asked the judge for leniency at his trial so that two lives were not lost by the mistake.
We live with his loss every day, but harboring hate in your heart will only make it worse.
Read Matthew 6:14 & 15 and then make your own call on what you feel a Christian needs to do.

Stockholm syndrome. All of America - the European part particularly - is suffering from this malady. The need to find some kind of personal peace by feeling you are above it all by forgiving an evil, maniacal monster who took such a beautiful, young life.
If it gives him peace, so be it.
But I wasn’t harmed directly by this and I don’t forgive him. Personally I am sick to death of these maniacal fiends who appear out of nowhere and commit such random crazy acts, ruining promising young lives, destroying lives and providing that maniac in the White House with ammunition to further abridge our rights.
I hope they all burn in hell, I hope we are more successful in intercepting them in the future, and I hope they are blasted to Hades by the Cops before they can cost society a fortune in a trial and lifetime jail sentence with all the amenities so many law-abiding Americans can’t afford to enjoy.
If this girl had been killed in a car crash ,would a diploma be issued posthumously ?
I think her name and picture on a memorial page along with any other classmates who died before graduation might be appropriate.
I think we are going too far sometimes as in all the roadside crosses .Should we also put a plaque in every room ,sidewalk,etc.?
Maybe we should.What do others think?
