SoCal Family Learns Lesson in Forgiveness From Nelson Mandela

Amy Biehl was a Fulbright Scholar and at her Stanford graduation wrote the words "Free Mandela" on her mortarboard. Her mother said Amy wanted the same thing Mandela and countless South Africans want: equality in South Africa.

But she did not live to see it.

The Newport Beach woman was killed by a mob in 1993, as she drove through Guguletu, targeted because she was white. ....

The men accused of killing her confessed and then were granted amnesty through the newly established Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The idea came from Mandela's hope that his country could reunite, after apartheid – exactly what Amy Biehl believed as well. ....

After their loved one’s death, the Biehl family created the Amy Biehl Foundation to empower young Africans in South Africa. Two of the men convicted of killing Amy currently work there.

did Mandela want equality when he said “Kill the Boer, kill the farmer” or when he was slaughtering the Zulu tribe?

They are much better people than myself. I don’t think that I could do that.

That unfortunate woman collided with reality and the collision was fatal. If she had only stayed OUT of Africa, she would today probably be just another rich California Obamabot....

I remember when this killing happened. The victim was one of those well-intentioned, but utterly naive folks in the mold of a Rachel Corrie or the like (well, one could question how well-intentioned Corrie was, but you get what I mean). Biehl likely thought her notions of tolerance and multiculturalism would protect her. Poor kid learned only too well how brutal and savage most of the world really is.

So this was the spirit of Mandela’s rebellion that resulted in Amy Biehl’s death, but they learned forgiveness from Mandela?

This is the very thing that 1984 warned us about.

That requires perspective. God, after all, forgives only those who are repentant, FWICS.

What a strange family. Mandela forgives his supporters who murdered their Daughter. Man that is some forgiveness.

Sort of like Chairman Mao forgiving his executioners who murdered upwards of 60 million people,

According to Rex van Schalkwyk, in his 1998 book One Miracle is Not Enough: “Supporters of the three men accused of murdering [her] … burst out laughing in the public gallery of the Supreme Court today when a witness told how the battered woman groaned in pain.” (pp. 188–89.) Four people were convicted of killing her. In 1998, all were pardoned by South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission when they stated that their actions had been politically motivated.

How generous of them to reward the demons who murdered their daughter. Do they have any more children to sacrifice?

“How generous of them to reward the demons who murdered their daughter. Do they have any more children to sacrifice?”

The ultumate end game of the Groveling White Guilt Syndrome:

Some white “liberals” have such a suicidal tolerance for black on white violence that it persists even after the victim is their own daughter:

Amy Biehl, an idealistic young white “liberal”, goes to South Africa to help the blacks end Apartheid and is beaten to death by a black mob because of the color of her skin. Her white liberal parents end up helping her murderers get amnesty, shake their hands once they get out of prison, take them out to dinner, and even hire two of them to work in their charity!

The ABC newsman focused on one dramatic event during that day’s testimony. As a witness for the prosecution described in detail Biehl’s begging while a knife was being driven into her chest down to the hilt, the black women in the crowd began to laugh and perform a mocking ululating while a few performed mock begging motions. The black men yowled in glee and the entire courtroom broke out into hysterics as the black crowd mocked this white girl’s final moments

Sitting in the courtroom, fresh from lily-white and very wealthy Newport Beach, California, were Biehl’s parents, Linda and Peter Biehl. The news report then cut to an interview of the parents after the day’s testimony, in which they declared that understood the anger of the crowd and that their fondest hope was that their daughter’s murder trial would lead to an opportunity for reconciliation and forgiveness. It was seeing this despicable reaction that made me realize that what I was seeing around me in Berkeley was, in fact, true: there is no black depravity against whites that white liberals will not excuse or forgive. We have it coming.

“Even our own daughters have it coming!”

After their loved one’s death, the Biehl family created the Amy Biehl Foundation to empower young Africans in South Africa.

I have grown to hate the word "empower". Every time I see it, I also see a liberal feel-good program that ends up costing boatloads of someone else's money, and results in utter failure.

An anonymous commenter at that site said "People who have built their entire identies on studiedly ignoring or distorting reality are hardly going to be dissuaded from their views by reality-based experiences and arguments." Ain't it the truth?
