Congresswoman: Obamacare creating health insurance monopolies

Rep. Renee Ellmers raised awareness of a new problem with Obamacare’s implementation: the creation of private-sector health insurance monopolies that will limit Americans’ provider choices.

The major health insurance company Blue Cross Blue Shield, which is closely coordinating with the White House on Obamacare implementation, will enjoy perhaps the greatest monopoly of all, the North Carolina Republican said in a statement.

“Although seven insurance companies currently operate in North Carolina, under the new Obamacare exchanges, those options will dwindle down to one in the majority of counties,” Ellmers said Thursday following the disclosure of figures by federal health officials showing that more than 60 percent of North Carolina counties will have only one insurance provider option under Obamacare: Blue Cross Blue Shield.

the doctors themselves are going to have to take this mess in hand and say eff you to the insurance companies and exchanges and refuse to take insurance and refuse to be dictated to by an insurance company and stand on their own two feet. The doctors should be setting up health care, not the effing government and not the insurance companies

Welcome to Obama's Healthcare Paradise.

What next? Confiscations of toilet paper as in the People's Republic of Venezuela?

A Cuban ex-pat, residing in NYC, recently said he had to send thread to the "socialist paradise of Cuba" so that his relative can get stitched up after surgery on her "wonderful government healthcare plan."

Same here in NH. The exchanges provide the “choice” of exactly one (1) provider. Nice choice there.

I suppose Blue Cross-Blue Shield will benefit for a while, but sooner or later they too will be gobbled up.

This whole Obamacare mess is designed to make insurance companies fail and allow the Government to take over health care completely with their single payer Government insurance they will rip us off with, with the cooperation of the IRS.

BC & BS is helping in their own demise.

“We are out there taking this seriously. When we were called to serve the state of North Carolina with health insurance, we answered that call…We’re committed to enforcing the law of the land,” Boreman said.

Crone capitalist? Leninist? Fellow traveler? Propagandist? It looks like there will be very little reason to formally nationalize the whole thing with a monopoly operating the system.

In WV, Highmark BC/BS is already the ONLY option on the Obama Exchange.

That’s why calling ObamaCare “Socialism” or “Communism” or “Marxism” is dead wrong.

It’s a state-directed, command economics executed through the private sector.

AKA Fascism.

Milton Friedman wrote back in 2001:

“Third-party payment has required the bureaucratization of medical care. ... A medical
transaction is not simply between a caregiver and a patient; it has to be approved
as ‘covered’ by a bureaucrat. ... The patient has little ... incentive to be concerned
about the cost since it’s somebody else’s money. The caregiver has become, in effect,
an employee of the insurance company or, in the case of Medicare and Medicaid, of
the government. ... An inescapable result is that the interest of the patient is
often in direct conflict with the interest of the caregiver’s ultimate employer.”

think of all the insurance industry campaign donations that went to democrats

think of all the insurance bigwigs enjoying $25,000 dinners with Obama

monopolies are so much more efficient for ruling the little people, ask a democrat

As they say, follow the money. Note whom were the biggest supportors of this Obama joy.

In Florida, Blue Cross operates as a mutual non taxable entity. For some reason, like money, they decided to change their charter to become a holding company for companies unrelated to medical insurance “to keep their profitability under Obamacare in tact. Since they pay their top executives each over a mil a year, I guess that does not hurt their profitability, in a mutual non taxable company, now including the more than $5mil a year they kick into the politicians. No wonder no one wants across borders insurance under Ocrapcare. BTW at last count they had a $2.6B surplus in reserves. Now then, if they are providing insurance at a price competitive nature, how was it they amassed such a surplus which allows for them under the reorganization to remove half of it and put it under other companies in their holdings?

Whenever I hear the terms not for profit and company in the same breathe, I know I am dealing with a crony laced bunch of politically connected individuals lining their pockets. Remember, these non taxable entities compete with for profit companies AND are supposed to accrue their revenues to the benefit of their policy holders, not their executives and related politicians.

Everything I hear every day about our political system shows me why the DC crowd is so interested in getting rid of guns.

“Congresswoman: Obamacare creating health insurance monopolies “

It’s almost as if health insurance is being reduced to some sort of “single payer” or something.

the “choice” of exactly one (1) provider

By design no doubt. Next step, single payer.

Well, the worst thought to me is combining this law with the utter stupidity of the American people.

I am now working as a new NP. The reasons people come in to be seen astound me. It’s like they are constantly in fear of contracting some horrific bacterial infection, despite ANY evidence of it as far as their symptoms go. They will return, and return ...charging more and more to their insurance companies. They don’t care, though, because they are not paying.

I can’t even imagine the lines we’ll see for people wanting to be seen. Especially if they are unemployed and have nothing else to do.

They’ll do everything they can EXCEPT actually do the things that would prevent their problems — like stop smoking, overeating, overdrinking, and taking a pill to solve every problem.

It’s a total tsunami/hurricane/disaster in the making.

ObamaCare is creating ONE health 'insurance' monopoly - the US government as administered by wild-eyed, save-the-earth-from-humans, radical bolsheviks. You can soon expect the likes of Lois Lerner to be deciding who and who does not get treatment. If you are not politically or financially useful to the Revolution, if you are born inconveniently or are burdensome to the avant garde lifestyle or are an embarrassment to the self image of the ruling nomenklatura you will be discarded, chucked into ObamaCare's apothetae of "no care for you".

Of course ObamaPelosiReidCare was designed to create a "medical insurance" monopoly. It's designed from the outset to create the ultimate monopoly: Government run "health insurance."

Given that it will be administered by the IRS, it finally gives the government control over your life or death, depending on your political party membership, your political party donations, and your political class.

Americans have been spoiled by the best medical care in the world. It is no longer. In other countries with Socialized Medicine, the medical staff have conditioned the people to only come in when it is really necessary. They will shame them, ridicule them, basically humiliate them if their reason for seeking medical help is not pretty serious. So the emergency rooms are pretty empty, unlike here. Americans have NO IDEA what is coming. Sadly, we will all have to suffer, not just the idiots who voted in this Fascist Regime. (At one time, I worked in the British NHS......I know how it works)

I have heard first hand stories of Cubans about the People's Republic of Paradise. These stories will make you ill. One woman told me that she went to Cuba to visit relatives. She was determined to teach some English to the children. Yet by the end of the trip, the children would only say "Oh my God". This happened because as she walked around the shanty villages, the stark poverty was continuous and dire - complete shared misery. She would turn a corner, gaze at the shear proliferation of poverty and say "Oh my God".

That story stuck in my head.
