Matthew 4:1-10 NASB
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘M an shall not live on bread alone , but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of G od .’” Then the devil took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘H e will command H is angels concerning Y ou ‘; and ‘O n their hands they will bear Y ou up , S o that Y ou will not strike Y our foot against a stone .’” Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘Y ou shall not put the L ord your G od to the test .’” Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘Y ou shall worship the L ord your G od , and serve H im only .’”
Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God , and serve Him only .’”
But then.. what need have you... of God... you have the Bible?..
Many do not need God they have the Bible..
Basically the Bible is their God...
The Bible replaces God to them....
Not all... but MOST!.. It becomes an idol.. a(their) fulcrum of faith..
God(Holy Spirit) are not needed or even desired..
Of course, this is all denied but the truth is “it is true”..
Much like the Jews in the desert for 40 years...
Their hearts were far from God.. they dealt with Moses..
and wanted a KING... and clergy.. instead..
Not much has changed.. it’s as true now as then...
They want God at a distance.. God is available but they prefer the Bible..
Or are even deluded into thinking they have BOTH...
You cannot have BOTH!.. What has God to do with idols.?.
