Despite Skeptical Public, Obama Will Take Credit for Economic Recovery Monday
AP/CNS News ^ | 9/16/2013 | JIM KUHNHENN

President Barack Obama is seeking credit for an economic turnaround, using the fifth anniversary of the collapse of the Lehman Brothers investment bank to highlight signs of recovery and to warn against potentially market-rattling fights over the federal budget and the nation's debt ceiling.

Obama was scheduled to address the state of the economy Monday in a Rose Garden speech, accompanied by a selection of Americans who the White House says have benefited from the administration's policies. The event marks the start of a week-long focus on the economy after a month of preoccupation with the crisis in Syria.

For Obama, the anniversary of Lehman's bankruptcy in 2008, which marked the beginning of the global financial crisis and played havoc with an economy already in recession, is an opportunity to confront public skepticism about his stewardship of the economy and to put down his marker for budget clashes with Congress in the weeks ahead.

What economic recovery? I heard them say on Fox this weekend that the true unemployment rate is 14%, if you count all the people who have quit looking for work, or are working part time when they really want full time work.

Of course Obama has to take credit. He has to take credit for SOMETHING during the last 5 years so why not the economy? He’s failed at every endeavor but “Newspeak” requires constant lying to keep us passive...

Oh man... this is starting to look more and more like the old Soviet Union.

What was that Russian joke from the 40s? “If you need milk, just take your bucket to the radio.”

They are desperate.

This economy is terrible, especially for the young.

Just had my neighbor come knocking on my door looking for a job for his son. The kid might not be the most motivated but I noticed all the other jobs he had was because they knew someone.

Who are you going to believe? Obama or your lying eyes?

For me the best way to determine how badly the economy is hurt is to watch the traffic on the roads. Compare it to the Bush years if you can. What I see is a whole lot less people driving to and from work than there used to be. and there are a whole lot of small businesses closed down that used to be doing quite fine.

Some conservative Republicans say they will only extend current spending levels or increase the debt ceiling if Obama delays putting in place his health care law, a condition Obama has flatly rejected.

Yep. The CR should explicitly exclude funding for ObamaCare, both mandatory and discretionary. Or it should simply repeal ObamaCare.

Either way, it comes down to the Senate and Zero either going along or shutting down the government. Which would be a nice sequel to the Sequester.

Tommy Flanagan 0.00bama.

"I saved the economy from the damage done by the evil Republicans, it was all me, just me and my economic plan. Yeah. From my time teaching economics and law at Harvard, yeah that's the ticket! I did it."

Syria: War is peace.

ObamaCare Mandates: Freedom is slavery.

Economic Recovery: Ignorance is strength.

Of course I believe everything Obama tells us.

I have noticed that too. It also takes a lot less time to get through the check-out line at WalMart.

WHAT RECOVERY?

Odumbo will take credit for anything that will make him look good and vote “present” when there is a possibility of things going bad.

Since becoming president, he has “voted” present and NEVER taken responsibility for anything since.

The emperor has no clothes.

At some point one needs to feel pity for a delusional idiot rather than anger. This guy belongs in a psychiatric hospital not a White House.

I noticed that quite a while ago, after moving back into an area I lived in during the Bush years. I used to have to take an alternate route home at least once a week because of traffic snarls or accidents; the number of times I've had to take an alternate route in the past two years can be counted on one hand.

A few days ago, I saw an article about how people are driving less despite the economic recovery, and how this behavior does not correspond to driving behavior during past recoveries. I was a tad incredulous.
