The Italians, Greeks, and French didn't create Third world hellholes like Mexico.

Actually, Mexico was for all practical purposes a French colony at a couple of points, including during the reign of the Emperor Maximilian.

As for being a "3rd world hell hole," Mexico, despite its obvious problems, is one of the richest countries in the world -- the 11th or 13th largest economy depending on how you measure. Mexican workers work longer hours than any other people in the world. Mexico's unemployment is only 5%, although that's largely because many of its least employable and lowest skilled workers emigrate to the United States.

The Human Development Index, which aims to capture quality of life, ranks Mexico as "High" -- about the same as European Union members Romania and Bulgaria and above other emerging economic powers like Turkey and Brazil.

“Latinos voted for President Barack Obama over Republican Mitt Romney by 71% to 27%,” Don’t let the facts get in the way of your little s***-fit, amigo.

I'm well aware of the numbers -- and if Republicans keep alienating Latinos by being racist jerks, in a few years Latinos will be as Democratic as blacks. The sad thing is that there's no reason for this -- Latinos are conservative on a great many issues. And I'm not arguing that conservatives need to embrace amnesty or drop any of our core beliefs. But we do need to drop the racism, because that's whats alienating people who would otherwise agree with us. Just look at this thread or countless others and you will see plenty of racism targeted at Latinos.

No Latino is going to say "hey I agree with these guys on the sanctity of life and low taxes, so who cares if they hate me." That's not how people vote.

Is it? I haven't been following. But my guess is Democrat politicians and unions. What's your analysis?

“That’s absolute horse-s**t. They may agree with the GOP on everything else, but when Latinos see morons like you guys posting racist crap about them, it’s awfully hard to get to a conversation about personal freedom and individual responsibility. Maybe we’d get a few more folks voting Republican if it weren’t so easy to get the sense that a lot of Republicans hate them.”

What he said. There are too many morons on FreeRepublic that lump all hispanics in the same group as illegals. I’m hispanic and a life long Republican. As is much of my family.

Are you serious? You might start with this thread, which contains by no means the most egregious examples, say at posts #3 and #4. FR is by no means unique -- and the takeaway is that when you survey Latinos, the #1 reason they vote Democrat -- way above immigration and any other issue -- is that they think Republicans hate Latinos.

Oppose illegal immigration? Fine. I do too -- just don't hate on a huge group of people purely on the basis of their ethnicity. I shouldn't have to point out that millions of whom are taxpaying, law abiding and, yes, conservative US citizens. There are tons of Asian and Eastern European illegal immigrants in this country as well, and if the conservative movement tolerated anti-Polish bigotry half as much as it tolerates anti-Latino hatred you'd see Poles voting for Dems at the same ratios Latinos do. It's wrong, but more importantly it's politically insane.

There are also large groups of people- whites and Hispanic both, that think all Hispanics here came here illegally. Ignoring the History that many are descendants of Hispanics that were here before this was the United States, and many others that have legally immigrated. The other day a person with a Hispanic surname was posting on facebook that they were against any plan that rewarded illegals for breaking the law. Several other Hispanics tried to slam the person by saying since they were Hispanic at some point their family was also illegal- which of course may not be true.

So many myths out there- Republicans hate Hispanics, all Hispanics are illegals, there is no way for Hispanics to legally come here to work or live or become citizens. All of which shows how effective the supporters of illegals/Democrats have been at changing the language and getting the myths out in common belief.

I have the only totally Caucasian lawn service in our entire county and they are reasonably priced. At least once a week a Hispanic will stop and offer to “do it for much less”. Have also had painters and small contractors who were Hispanic stop and want to do work at very little over the cost of the materials, particularly if I pay cash. To all of these I say no thanks.

They don’t pay payroll or income taxes, have worker’s comp or liability insurance. It’s no wonder they can undercut companies that are non-Hispanic.

American citizens have brought a lot of this on themselves because they want the cheapest housekeepers, gardeners and repairmen - no questions asked.

I think you are right -- I also think that immigration is the key issue, but not in the way that most people think.

It's not that most Latinos support illegal immigration -- they don't -- it's that a lot of conservatives use racial language and cultural slurs when we oppose it and that's obviously deeply offensive to Latino US citizens regardless of how they got their citizenship.

Heck, even Cubans, none of whom are illegal and a population that was once the most Republican group in America are now trending Democrat, and I think the evidence is this is because of the perception of anti-Latino racism on the part of the GOP.

Out of curiosity, have you bothered to check if the Latinos are legal residents or citizens and if they pay taxes? Or for that matter if the white lawn guys pay their workers comp or taxes either? Or do you just make assumptions based on their ethnicity?

You are confusing statements with which you do not agree and racism.

Let's start here: define racism.

You bet. They are all treated equally. Always ask for proof of insurance - liability and workers comp - and verify expiration date, always have business owner complete W-9 because I do 1099’s at the end of the year, regardless of the amount, and verify info with IRS, always ask for three references complete with name, address and telephone number and do check them. I don’t check a contractor’s employees individually unless they are also a client that I do accounting work for.

Also go through the same steps on behalf of one of my accounting clients who owns several rental properties. Had a lengthy discussion with another doctor client re someone they wanted to hire as an independent contractor. Reviewed the rules and differences between independent contractors and employees and that person was hired but as an employee.

I don’t necessarily agree with all the rules but I’m a small business owner, too, and until the rules are changed everyone I do business with has to be treated the same as I am by those people for whom I work.

I have been through too many audits with IRS and Texas Workforce Commission with clients and although none of them ever had to pay any penalty or fines, it’s just not worth the grief and extra work.

Puh-leaze. Have you ever been to Mexico? And I don’t mean the tourist areas protected by men with machine guns. Haiti was once a French colony too, the richest in the world. No one in their right mind would describe Haiti today as French.
But its good for you that you think that Mexico is so great because the US is being transformed into Mexico by all the tens of millions of Mexicans that live here. Your grandchildren should love it.

Yeah, go figure. There's a taqeria on every corner of every strip center.
