Democrat Senate President John Morse, who is battling a recall, took another hit Tuesday when Republican Bernie Herpin vowed to take a leadership role in passing legislation to protect children from sexual predators. It was a thinly veiled attack on Morses voting record.
As a father of three daughters and the grandfather of six young grandchildren, the safety of our children is an important issue for me, declared Herpin.
The Colorado Springs Police Protective Association hammered Morse earlier this month for claiming he passed laws to protect children from being victimized by sex offenders. Not so, declared CSPPA, referring to Morses vote to kill Senate Bill 195 in 2008, which would have toughened penalties for convicted child predators.
CSPA, which represents more than 800 law enforcement officers, urged voters to recall Morse and elect Herpin in the Sept. 10 special election.
John Morse blocked tougher laws protecting children from violent sexual predators, then passed unconstitutional laws disarming law-abiding citizens over our objections, said El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa.
Herpin has been endorsed by Maketa, who was one of 55 sheriffs who opposed the gun-control bills rammed through the legislature by Democrats who ignored constituents complaints. That ignited the grassroots drive to recall Morse and Sen. Angela Giron (D-Pueblo).
If elected, Herpin pledged to work for the passage of Jessicas Law at a press conference attended by Rep. Libby Szabo (R-Arvada), sponsor of the bill that Democrats derailed this year, CSPPA Vice President Mike Singels and former El Paso County Undersheriff Teri Goodall.
Im embarrassed to say that Colorado is one of only five states that have not enacted some form of Jessicas law, said Herpin.

Right now not loving Colorado. We drove through the outskirts of Denver to get home last month from Crested Butte. We didn’t speed or violate any laws but got a bill just for driving on it. Evidently it was a toll road with no toll booths or even that I can recall, signs saying it was but it had cameras.
It sounds like you came up I-25 and took E-470, the toll road shortcut to eastbound I-70. It has express toll so no booths needed. Folks without an express toll RFID gizmo get the plates read and a bill is sent in the mail. The big green sign for the exit does say it is a toll road.
Please do not confuse Denver with Colorado. Us natives don't like Denver either, even those of us who live here.
Some in northern Colorado have the right idea to secede from Colorado. My idea is for Colorado to secede form dirty DENVER.
I’m visiting my brother in Denver at the end of the month. Can you recommend a few places where conservatives go. Thinking beer and steaks I believe he lives near Commons Park
” My idea is for Colorado to secede form dirty DENVER.”
Don’t forget to include The People’s Republic of Boulder as another piece to leave behind.
I consider Boulder as part of Denver. Aspen, Vail... degenerates all.
For beer I recommend the Copper Kettle brewing company on Parker road and Valencia. Very tasty microbrewery. My favorite steakhouse was trail dust - now gone. Enjoy the visit.
