I spoke to one of the inner city pastors I know in Detroit this afternoon. He says gangsta culture is to blame. Without the culture, Martin would have either stopped and spoken to Zimmerman rationally or ran and not stopped till he got home.
Unfortunately the gangsta culture sees those two options as weakness.

Having no parents are to blame. Those kids need father role models and the only ones to be found are thugs. When the baby mama is too busy hanging out with druggie friends, clubbing or maqking more babies, the kids have no mothers wither.
