my dad was in the latter part of WWII, occupying Italy and he said the Red Cross would charge a nickle for donut and cup of hot coffee. said he would never give them another nickle as long as he lived.

Yep, same thing during the hurricane. So many people were angry with the Red Cross. OTOH, the Salvation Army would give the shirt off their back.

My dads army unit came off the front lines in the battle of the bulge in WWII. They were shot up,starving etc ....the Red Cross tried to sell them hot coffee and a donut...they refused to pay......he never donated to them in his life...neither will I
