GOP Senator Ted Cruz Isn’t A Hypocrite, But It’s Time For Him To Become A Legislator
Mediaite via Hotair ^ | 04/21/2013 | Evan McMurray

It’s time for Ted Cruz to become a Senator.

The mini-McCarthy has made much use of his title in the few months he’s had it, linking Chuck Hagel to Iran, misleading on gun control, punching out of his league with Diane Feinstein, and generally acting like a petulant teenager rather than a crafter of legislation. That’s because he’s largely avoided crafting legislation at all—unless you count amendments to repeal Obamacare or spitting in the general direction the United Nations

They will do all they can to isolate and destroy Cruz and the VERY few conservatives left in the Senate who are decent enough to speak out, especially against this SHAMNESTY. Grover Norquist is already bragging that he has ‘marginalized’ Jeff Sessions.

Grover vs. ‘the Bitter Enders’(Grover trying to give Rubio political cover)

[snip] Grover Norquist is known as an anti-tax crusader, but in the coming weeks he will be just as much a pro-immigration crusader, combatting what he calls the “bitter enders” who oppose comprehensive immigration reform. Norquist says that he’s trying to counteract the effect of “a handful of radio talk-show hosts who talk loudly.” “The bitter-enders who are still responding to radio talk-show hosts from eight years ago haven’t noticed that the world has shifted from underneath them,” he says. “The people who need cover are the guys who are still voting like they were Pat Buchanan.”

[snip]”In an unlikely pairing, renowned anti-tax activist Grover Norquist stood alongside AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, the leader of the nation’s largest labor coalition. Senators from both parties yukked it up with jokes throughout the hour-long affair.

After the conference ended, Norquist predicted the Gang of Eight would succeed, arguing that opponents like Sessions and Vitter, who sunk the last immigration bill in 2007, have been marginalized. Restrictionists, Norquist said, are people who merely “think of themselves as conservatives...If you’re a Republican, you look at the business community wants it, the religious community wants it,” he told reporters. “Who is the opposition? Sometimes we need em writing and sheperding legislation other times we need them as a stalwart standard bearer.

He’ll propose something in the fall...

Evan McMurray is implicitly assuming that we need more government and more laws, and all Cruz has to do is accept his belief that America's problem is too little government control over our lives. The fact is that Cruz is right - the problem is too many unjust, unconstitutional, expensive, and overly intrusive laws. His role so far is inspired by the Hippocratic Oath, "first, do no harm."

If Cruz can take the next step and repeal even a few of the more onerous federal gun laws, take a major bite out of ObamaCare, and cut federal spending, not the exorbitant growth rate of spending but the actual number of dollars wasted per year, then I will consider him a major success. That prudence, a few good laws combined with real cuts in government meddling and government spending, would put Cruz in the top 1% of Senators in the past hundred years, well above leftists such as DiFi, Teddy Kennedy, and Reid, who have authored huge numbers of new, expensive, and almost universally harmful laws.

...punching out of his league with Diane Feinstein...

Agreed. Cruz was the big leaguer; Feinstein the bush leaguer in that exchange.

They're scared of Cruz. Rubio has just proven he can be turned, so now the media is desperate to marginalize Cruz. This author bitches that Cruz hasn't asked for emergency funding for West, Texas (and therefore can't be marginalized.)

I couldn't believe I was reading what I was reading from this idiot ! God help us.

Speaking of the quisling Norquist, I just ran across this item. He’s going to lie about anyone he can to pass this monstrosity. That’s how he and Rubio’s chief of staff, Cesar Conda have screwed up every immigration reform for 3 decades, including prop. 187 in California. If there are two people responsible for the illegal alien/Visa/imported terrorist mess we’re in, it’s these two.

DeMint Defends Heritage’s Immigration Report

By David M. Drucker Posted at 6:28 p.m. on April 22

Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint, the former senator from South Carolina, is defending the conservative think tank’s research into the fiscal effects of an immigration overhaul.

Earlier this month, supporters of the Senate bill pre-emptively attacked Heritage Senior Research Fellow Robert Rector for what they contend was a “flawed” a 2007 study examining the cost of providing a path to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants. The Cato Institute and Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform have charged that Rector’s latest study on the subject, which has yet to be released, will probably be similarly flawed and does not represent conservatives.

Heritage opposes an immigration overhaul and DeMint, in a lengthy blog post published Monday, criticized the path to citizenship component of the Senate immigration bill written by the “gang of eight.” In the post, DeMint devoted a paragraph to defending Rector and the Heritage Foundation’s research.

“The Heritage Foundation is one of the only organizations looking at this cost to taxpayers. Our expert, Robert Rector, is one of the nation’s leading authorities on government social programs, and he is currently calculating what amnesty will cost taxpayers over the long term. It is based on a methodology also used by the National Academy of Sciences,” he wrote.

Rector’s previous study examining the cost of legalizing the millions of illegal residents is blamed by pro-reform forces for helping dissuade Republicans from supporting the failed 2007 effort to rewrite U.S. immigration law.

Oh brother. He has been their four months and is expected to understand the workings of Washington. It would be amazing if he could locate the cafeteria. Let the guy get a few years under his belt before demanding him to pass bills. He needs to understand the process first.

Ditto that. To a liberal a good politician is someone who “does something”. To a conservative, it is someone who “puts on the brakes” as you said, or better yet, throws the machine into reverse. Downsize government - don’t grow it!
Go Cruz!

Wonder how many liberals know that McCarthy and Bobby Kennedy were close friends? And Joe Kennedy always defended McCarthy, even after his fall from grace. McCarthy’s problem was that he did not arrive on the scene until the government had already waked to the Communist danger, were trying to get rid of them while denying that they had deeply penetrated the Roosevelt administration.

Plus how does a Republican Senator get anything through Harry Reid’s senate? Reid is engaged in a holding action, to keep the Pubbies from opposing what the Obama people want to do. Then there is the reality that that ego-maniac McCain is trying to hog the lime-light.

McCarthy was totally vindicated. The press hasn’t gotten the memo.

I give a big “boo hoo who” to any lib actor who’s career suffered cause they wouldn’t rat on the commie pals that they ALL had. They were abetting treason, just like anyone who goes soft on the Jihadists today.
