Israel is not only the closest ally in the region, they are THE ONLY ally we have.
Turkey and Greece are members of NATO although I wouldn't say either one could be counted on--Turkey double-crossed us in 2003 when we were about to invade Iraq and there are a lot of leftists in Greece.
