Mitt Romney's Sparse Campaign Schedule Worries Some Republicans

Mitt Romney's Sparse Campaign Schedule Worries Some Republicans Mitt Romney has been holding fewer public campaign events than John McCain did in 2008. He has spent a lot of time fundraising away from key swing states.

By Seema Mehta and Mitchell Landsberg September 19, 2012

When the political conventions ended in 2008, GOP candidate John McCain bounded around the country like a jack rabbit. In three days, he went from Wisconsin to Michigan to Colorado to New Mexico to Missouri, with multiple campaign appearances in some of those states.

Mitt Romney's schedule this year has presented quite a contrast.

In his first two days of campaigning after the conventions, Romney visited Iowa, New Hampshire and Virginia, with one stop in each state. Then he went home to Boston and took a day off from the campaign trail.

That, as it turns out, has been Romney's most active period of campaigning since the presidential contest moved into its crucial post-convention stage. Although his campaign says he is about to accelerate his pace, Romney so far has held far fewer public events than either presidential candidate did four years ago, and has spent a significant amount of time in states — Massachusetts, California, New York, Texas — that are not considered up for grabs in November

Maybe Romney has decided not to follow the pathetic McCain. Maybe he’s decided to follow a more successful politician- Pappy O’Daniel- who once said “We ain’t one-at-a-timing here, you cracker- We’re MASS communicating!”

Glad handing won’t garner the undecideds. The debates will.

Romney is smart to hold more fund raisers than campaign events. Why follow McCain’s losing strategy?

Funds will provide TV Ads reaching several hundred thousand people each time. A campaign event is usually 10,000 or less. And people showing up at campaign events will be voting GOP anyways.

“That’s what 0bama is winning with, empathy.”

Until a few weeks ago, Obama acted as though (and said) the private sector was doing fine. Romney doesn’t have to do anything but “not be Obama”; the burden is on Obama to make the case that he deserves re-election, and it is very difficult to do so.

Obama has ruled as though the ghetto people, union members, and government employees were all that lived here for the past 3 and a half years; now that it is obvious that there are not enough of them to win re-election, he has to do the work. Romney can just sit back and look grown-up; given the way anything that comes out of his mouth is twisted and amplified, that probably is his best road to victory.

You would think Romney has enough money by now. You can’t turn around an electorate by a barrage of ads in the final lap.

If Obama was white Romney would be far ahead. Obama was elected president because he was black and if he is re-elcted it will be because he is black

Personally, I think the current way to campaign for office is outdated and very costly.

I am not offended that candidates don’t come and shake my hand personally. Unlike the past, we can see these people on tv, hear them on the radio and everywhere else ad nauseum.

The current way of campaigning needs to be revamped and the conventions scrapped (maybe a one day event at most).

There are far more effective ways of reaching the public in today’s world. jmho.

Romney is not my ideal candidate, but he is not stupid. He is not a seasoned lifelong politician, but he is not stupid. He is a businessman and probably the right person to lead at a time like this when economy is stuck in a big rut.

A barrage of ads during last 2 weeks before election and a good debate performance is what he needs to win.

I was responding to your comment that “only” Democrats provide free birth control. Obviously that is not the case, as I think the vote shows.

Just saw an Obama Commercial on Cable (Spike TV).

Apparently he stood up to China by imposing Trade Tariffs to protect American Tire Manufacturers. First time I heard that, but if Obama says so it must be true. Oh yeah, and Mitt Romney loves China so much he must be Chinese, even though he never ate a Dog like Obama did.

They need to learn to speak “woman”: Your washing machine (the economy, the country) has broken down. The very charming repairman has been tinkering with it for FOUR years while you use the laundromat, week after week. He has sipped wine at your table, tossed a ball around with your kids, smiled a lot. However, you should see by now that he knows nothing about fixing the washing machine. Now you have this OTHER repairman who is all business and has a lot of experience fixing (successfully) washing machines. Maybe you don’t want to sit and play cards with him. Good, neither does he, because he is all about fixing things and making your life get back to normal. Bottom line: you are hiring a technician, you are an employer, you are not looking for a boyfriend here. Remember how effective the anti Hillary healthcare ad was with Louise? Women often respond well to miniature soap opera presentations.

Yes, 3.5 years after taking office, Obama has to pretend that he is an American angry at Red China. Stupid political posturing, which will probably be seen by voters as such; someone probably told Obama he is viewed more as a black race-baiting “minister” than an American or a president, so now he’ll imitate the presidents he has seen on TV, talking as they do even though the words mean nothing to him.

I apologize, you were not off topic based on my post.

Now that bill repubs passed in house, did it have some other items such as funding military or shutting down the gov’t?
