I think there are too damn many people in the diplomatic corps who are too damn comfortable with whatever nationals they happen to be dealing with in their assignments and not enough concerned with the best interests of America.

Concur. I spent 22 years in embassies and consulates. Most of the ambassadors I served under were fine, dedicated Americans ( of course there were a couple of jerks in the mix). AFAIC, the ambassador was KIA, as were the Marines (as I’ve read).
