I am more than willing to vote for Romney, regardless of his religion. We are, after all, electing a political leader, not a spiritual leader.
So I’d like for him to keep it that way.
I would assume that you know something about Mormonism. If so, you know that there are beliefs that are, to put it mildly, odd and far out of the mainstream.
Romney can follow whatever ideology he chooses; that’s one of our most precious guarantees. But he is highly vulnerable to Democrat attempts to put a spotlight on the wackiness of Mormonism, including the magic underwear, mythical gold plates, and, of course, Kolob. Continually bringing it up when unnecessary and stressing how immersed he is in it is opening that door.
Surely his friends could tell their stories of his largesse without cloaking it in Mormonism. They leave the impression that his social circle is confined to his church.
In addition, repeatedly throwing his religion in our faces causes those of us who think that it is bonkers to once more question his good judgement. That is a serious concern, not insecurity.
Are you referring to evangelicals?
But you see, if his Mormonism isn’t brought up, they will say he has something to hide.
