As youth unemployment soars, France offers to let companies hire young people on its dime

PARIS — The French government wants companies to hire young people so much that it’s offering to pick up the tab.

The new Socialist president, Francois Hollande, told his Cabinet Wednesday that he wants to wage a war on unemployment and unveiled a plan for the government to pay most of the salaries of tens of thousands of young people hired next year.

European employers are especially reluctant to hire young people because restrictive labor laws make it hard for companies to lay off employees.

Under France’s new plan, companies that hire a person between 16 and 25 for at least a year will only have to pay as little as 25 percent of the salary. The government hopes to create 100,000 of these “contracts for the future” next year and another 50,000 in 2014. It has promised to continue paying its share of the employee’s salary for three years.

The government will give preference to young people hired from poor urban or rural areas that have been hit hardest by rising unemployment. Certain sectors will also be favored, such as medicine and digital or green technology.

Might as well guarantee every Frenchman a decent minimum “living wage” while they’re at it, right?

A hundred euros per hour sounds about right, don’t you think? Or should we make it two hundred? Or will that place such a burden at all the best restaurants that it’ll take hours to be seated?

Hollande kinda reminds me of Obama when it comes to using taxpayers money.

I am completely in support of this! I don’t much like the Frogs, so it would be great to see them self-destruct. Hopefully it’ll happen before we go down too.

Idiot socialist-marxist stupidity! Who "pays" the government in order for the government to "pay" the workers? Stupidity of this magnitude should be considered to be grounds for jail & imprisonment.

Sounds like communism, everyone given a job, paid for by the central government.

Obama tried to head off layoffs of cops, teachers, and firemen with temporary aid; taxpayers saw through it and voted down school budgets and such.

Even one additional year of salaries would have meant millions more in retirement costs and such down the road for the trampled taxpayers of NJ.

Besides the above nonsense, France’s new socialist government are raising taxes on their rich to get more money to redistribute. French “rich” are moving themselves and their money/businesses out of France. What could go wrong?

The government will give preference to young people hired from poor urban or rural areas that have been hit hardest by rising unemployment. Certain sectors will also be favored, such as medicine and digital or green technology.

Because after all, the untrained poor urban or poor rural "yutes" are so knowledgeable about advanced sciences such as medicine, digital or green technology. What are the poor "yutes" supposed to do? Check out the electrical conductivity by sticking their tongues in the electrical sockets?

Or when some frenchie (preferably one who voted for Francois Hollande in the last election) goes in for his heart surgery or brain operation, and looks over and see's one of the poor urban "yutes" in a hoodie or muzzie head dress, there to assist the surgeon?
.

This is getting more hilarious the more you think about it!

I can’t believe the French elected this moron. And how long is the term? 6 years, isn’t it? And there’s no “no confidence” voting or anything like that in La Belle France, mais non?
