question: 40 years ago, wasn’t it easier to get gns than today? K. Jackson is correct when he points out that the reason for the surge is not due to guns (or else we’d have less violence than before) but due to liberalism
It was. When I purchased my first gun there was no such think as a 4473....paid cash and walked out. Not so long ago a long gun purchase didn’t require a background check. What we’re seeing is a failure of govt to ‘protect us’. After all ‘gun control’ was sold on that basis. The premise of ‘protecting us’ was false to begin w/ so its little surprising the outcome is failure. It all sounded so good when the pols huffed and puffed but the reality is disappointing. Now we’re knee deep in failure and its becoming clear to some people we’ve been sold a bill of goods. My hope is more and more will come to understand the govt can never do what we ourselves MUST do. Self govt always trumps a central govt.

Before 1968 you could buy an M-1 Carbine, & many other rifles, through Sears and have it shipped straight to your house.
I long for a return to mail order guns. I even miss cheap Norinco ammo.
