I’ve thought about this move by Obama and I think it is a win win for Republicans.

The origins of welfare to work were in WI. Wisconsin was the #1 welfare magnet in the nation. Other states would buy their poor bus tickets to WI. There were generous primary benefits followed by generous increases for every child a woman had thereafter. Once the citizens of the state were made aware of the fact that the state’s taxpayers were taking care of the poor from other states, reform became a priority.

As I see it, since the new Obama directive leaves the work requirement up to the individual states, that it will be states with Democrat governors seizing on this to buy votes, turning those states into welfare magnets.

It won’t take very long before welfare seekers will start moving to the states with the easy rules, consolidating Democrat voters in fewer and fewer states, thus making it easier for Republicans to elect a Republican president and Republican congress/Senate. It may take a decade or two, but it will be a win-win situation for the states which adhere to work rules for welfare.

By eliminating the work-search requirement, these people can be effectively dropped from the workforce, thus decreasing the official unemployment figure. Anything Obama does between now and November is for one goal and one goal only - to help him get re-elected.
