I have been required by law to put a part of my wages into a government run ponzi scheme. If I manage to live long enough to get some of the scammed money back, I will try to get it back. SS has always been a government run slush fund filled by workers who were lied to. I plan to get back whatever I can. F’em.

Right. At least it was supposed to be saved for your retirement but Congress spent the money. They need to bail out the social security account like they bailed out the banksters and Government Motors and like they poured billions into failed alternative energy companies for an illusion of global warming.

Earnings limit for those under full retirement age is $14,160; for those turning 66 in 2012, the limit is $38,800.

I became 66 in 2011, I believe my letter from s.s. said I could earn any amount at that time without my s.s. check being affected. I'd have to find the letter to be certain though.

I paid into SS and now draw it, but given my druthers, I’d have preferred private retirement, SS’s a scam.

I have drawn both since becoming 62. Private retirement income is not considered "earned income".

I do pay federal taxes on the s.s. income though but get this, I live in the bluest of the blue states, Illinois and pay no state income tax on retirement income, including s.s.

Mainly because the asshat was king of earmarks , only behind Robert Byrd. Is that what Paulbots call a fiscal conservative?

I’ve got a lot of skin in the deal.
Over a quarter mil.

Of course it’s a crapshoot on how long you live and collect.

I assume the “death panels” are the FedGov’s long term solution to the SS and Medicare underfunding problem.

Thank you for you so well reasoned and timely riposte.

I find it especially informative and heartening that RP is a lying ass hypocrite for not working within the existing chaos which seizes all that money We Don’t Have from his constituents and then Earmarks some of it Back to them, rather than just letting it all go to Democrat Districts and leaving his own constituents with a grin and the Bill for them to build the 299th Robert Byrd memorial outhouse somewhere in WV.

In case it hasn’t occurred to you, standing on principle and Not taking it home would get him defeated by another Democrat who embraces the oppositions Principles/Lack of them, on Top of taking it and a whole lot More back home.

From the SSA website:

If you are under full retirement age for the entire year, we deduct $1 from your benefit payments for every $2 you earn above the annual limit.

For 2012, that limit is $14,640.

In the year you reach full retirement age, we deduct $1 in benefits for every $3 you earn above a different limit, but we only count earnings before the month you reach your full retirement age.

If you will reach full retirement age in 2012, the limit on your earnings for the months before full retirement age is $38,880. (If you were born in 1946 or 1947, your full retirement age is 66 years.)

Starting with the month you reach full retirement age, you can get your benefits with no limit on your earnings.

That was in the letter I got last year.

(If you were born in 1946 or 1947, your full retirement age is 66 years.)

However, I was born in 1945. For that matter it may have been year before last when I got the letter, I tend to forget details.
