AFL-CIO TO CUT DIRECT FUNDING TO DEMOCRATS
biggovernment.breitbart.com ^ | June 13, 2012 | Ben Shapiro

After President Obama’s decision to avoid the Wisconsin recall election, undercutting desperate union members who wanted to oust Governor Scott Walker, the AFL-CIO has announced that it will take money away from political candidates and instead put it into “infrastructure and advocacy,” according to AFL-CIO spokesman Josh Goldstein. “There will be less contributions to candidates.”

That means that President Obama will receive less direct funding from the AFL-CIO than usual, but it doesn’t mean the AFL-CIO will be silent – it just means they’ll message independentlyof the Obama campaign. “This is not a slight at the president,” Goldstein said. The goal is to create a massive system that would give “different kinds of support to different candidates.” Richard Trumka, head of the AFL-CIO, had said back in 2009 that the labor movement would be building its own campaign machinery.

While the AFL-CIO will undoubtedly back Obama in 2012, they will do so from outside. It’s a sign that a lack of trust is building between the two camps. The unions would now prefer to run their own campaigns rather than handing cash over to Obama directly. The question is whether absent centralized coordination, the Obama campaign will be on point with the unions. After Wisconsin, it’s far from clear that such singularity of messaging will take place.

This is a bit surprising. Unions bailing on the Dems?

Obama's internals must be so horrible the only chance organized labor has is to reach out to their "enemy" on the other side of the aisle with millions in campaign contributions.

If true this could be the most devastating news to come out so far in this election season. We all know unions do not bail on the Dems or Obama - not after all the funds they were funneled in TARP and the stimulus I and II.

I believe the key word is "direct." Under the table dealings will probably double.

it will take money away from political candidates and instead put it into “infrastructure and advocacy,”

meaning more money to ACORN, SEIU, hire more mafia type persuaders to exact their thuggery tactics against any union opposition

Well, remember too that Obama was too busy to go to Wisconsin during that campaign.

But, Obama did send out a twitter message the night before the election there, so he gave them good moral support................

I had the same thoughts. I can imagine a union, after polling their members who are not on board, publicly saying they are not supporting Obama. Behind the scenes is a different story.

Unions receive too much protection from the Dems to bail on them. They also don’t care if they use their dues against the wishes of their members as long as publicly they can say “we didn’t do that”.

Payback for Wisconsin and the Walker win.

I didn’t consider that scenario - you may just be right.

It's a lover's quarrel - they'll be back together soon. They're trying to hood-wink concerned family members - but we're on to their tricks.

If you believe that I’ve a got a bridge to sell ya...
The Unions and Democrat party are “partners”...

If it was not for the democrats....
Unions wouldn’t be FORCED on every Federal and State building projects...

Not to speak of the Givernment Workers Union(s)...
That statement could have come from Hitler or Stalin’s propaganda ministry....
Main stream media is propaganda 24/7...
AND Fox is getting iffy...

This means nothing. As a former member of the AFL-CIO I can assure you that supporting Democratic politicians is considered to be a key component of a union's “infrastructure and advocacy” budget.

“This is not a slight at the president,”

That is like saying after 3/1/2 years with Obama in charge that he has no responsibility for the state of the economy.

Notice I’ve said a few times on this article “if it’s true”, personally I think they are simply saying one thing publicly and doing something else behind closed doors.

I trust unions less then I trust Democrats.

AFL
One of the American Federation of Labor's founding fathers, and first president, was Samuel Gompers. That was 1886.
While doing my family genealogy, I discovered my ggGrandfather lived in the same NYC tenement with the Gompers. That was 1880.
My ggGF was a cooper (barrel maker), and more than likely belonged to the Coopers International Union. The Gompers were cigar makers.
I often wonder if they ever shared a beer and a stogie, discussed labor/politics and what they would think of today's union thugs.

My soon to be ex-husband is IBEW, I’m pretty familiar with how unions work and lie.

Gotta love a group that claims to support their workers then works behind and in-front of the curtains doing everything to harm the very people they claim to represent.
