Romney's Favorables Rising Despite Attacks
Fox News ^ | May18, 2012 | Chris Stirewalt

The best bit of news for Mitt Romney is that his Gallup favorability rating has just crested 50 percent, only 2 points behind the president. Better still, Romney's negative rating is lower than Obama's - 46 percent to 41 percent. Much of Romney's 11-point rise since February can be attributed to the end of the bruising Republican primary process. Not only have Republicans coalesced, but the daily news cycle is no longer dominated by reporters gleefully repeating the latest attacks from Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich.

But Obama can count on the establishment press helping him with his preferred narrative for the election: that Romney is cruel and extreme. A "vampire," even. When a sitting president is comparing his opponent to Nosferatu in a TV commercial before Memorial Day, it is not the act of a man confident in his re-election chances.

I just got a fundraising plea from Romney. Since I’m on the conservative mailing lists, which is evidently where he got my name, he claims to be a strong conservative.

In relation to your question, I’m still toying with whether or not to stuff the letter back into the post reply envelope and tell him no thanks. I’ve occasionally done that with the RNC, not that it seems to do much good.

No, I agree that Obama is even worse than Romney, but I cannot in good conscience vote for either one of those narcissistic, entitled, socialist, extremist gay activist baby killers.

Romney is the same as Obama. NO THANKS.

NO WAY.

Cool. You can be one of the superior folks on the sidelines, arms folded, shaking your head. Don't worry you're not alone there, plenty of you right here on FR.

The rest of us will roll up our sleeves, do all the lifting and try to make the best of an imperfect situation.

I’m with you. There’s no way in hell not after the way he treated us during the primary. Fortunately Virgil Goode will be on the ballot here. He won’t win but it’s enough to get me to the polls to vote in those downticket races where it really counts.

Gee, I guess your positives go up when you stop carpet-bombing republicans with friendly fire.

Pity the ass was unrelenting on Gingrich and Santorum but is too lily-livered to give Obama the same treatment via the Reverend Wright opening.

Romney attacks fellow conservatives viciously and with a smile and soft (yuk!)voice. He calls OB a nice guy, even yesterday after more OB vetting.

Blech!

I’ll vote against OB but I’ll be praying very hard for our country.

Romney's attacks against GOP rivals were done through surrogates. His Obama attacks will be done likewise. It's smart. I know we all want him to stand up and say all the things we say here on FR - Marxist, Muslim, liar, etc. But he's trying to get elected nationally. We are not.

Obama is dropping and Romney is rising. The object is to WIN. Whatever strategy Team Romney has is working so far it got him through a rough primary process and will enable him to beat Obama.

That is what we care about right, beating Obama?

Poor Barry.

All of the smear tactics that got him where he is today are suddenly blowing up in his face.

What is a Kenyan usurper to do?

Beating Obama with Obama-lite isn't a victory in any sense of the word. I'm more afraid of Romney because a GOP Congress might actually go along with him, whereas they'll actually try to slow Obama down.

This is just the reply I was hoping for. I can see thistactic and it is a correct one. I have been through may disappointments with W hopin ghe was doing things tactfully and then choosing a liberal direction unnecessarily (politically speaking).

I do know Romney acted behind the scenes in the primary.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly some republicans morph into panicky fear voters and throw all principle to the wind.

We see talk about the democrat plantation all the time yet when there’s a RINO we discover that the democrats aren’t the only plantation in town.

I say the master of the Grand Old Plantation can pick his own stinkin cotton.

No. I will vote for Romney grudgingly but the thought of 4 more years of Prince Obama and Princess Ticklefeather makes me nauseous.

Obama out is a victory.

Romney, for all his faults, has at least a chance of helping turn this economy in the right direction. He has business sense and doesn't exist to destroy our capitalist system. With Obama we have ZERO chance - in fact an even more rapid slide into socialism with him having ZERO accountability the next four years.

But it's your choice. Defeat the biggest threat and help this country live long enough to try and save it, or be a Virgil Do-Gooder and pat yourself on the back on the sidelines as the world around you crumbles.
