Basically the GOP is too divided to ever unite. There is a deep level of distrust and various factions want different things. People do not agree on whom the best candidates are anymore. Us Conservatives, like me, were all over the map as person after person fell apart in the presidential republican primary. Romney is the final nail in the coffin. Newt, to me, has no chance and he has his own baggage. He has a good message though, but it is too late to do much. I personally think it is time to just end the party.
I don't demand absolute conservative purity in my candidates. I was an unenthusiastic voter for George H. W. Bush, Dole, George W. in 2004, and McCain. The only post-Reagan general election candidate for whom I was enthusiastic was George W. Bush in 2000. However, Romney is far, far less conservative than even H. W., Dole, and McCain. I could at least find redeeming qualities in those candidates.
And now you decide to take a stand? On the most important election of our time?
Because the Republicans have never produced a nominee anywhere close to as liberal as Romney. I have heard the refrain "most important election" every 4 years since 1976. It has lost its scare factor. If our nation is so weak that it can't survive four years of Obama, it is doomed, anyway.
Thanks Colonel, not many on this Christian owned forum understand why we have come to this point.
See my response to SgtHooper in #121.
By your own numbers, compromising principles has not worked all to well in the past. Every election year conservatives get the exact same bullying tactic - you better vote for our guy, or else, and look where we are now.
I prefer to call it simplistic logic(as in logic which fails to account for the whole picture).
You "logic" has brought this country to its knees.
It’s impossible to assess how important an election is, was or will be. But I know Romney is a liar. I’ll always try to avoid voting for a candidate based on what I wish him to be.
