Suzanne Schindler: Terri Schiavo’s Death Was Wake-Up Call: Euthanasia Benefits No One
Life News ^ | 4/4/12 | Suzanne Schindler

We must never forget Terri and the premature, unthinkable death she endured. Last March 31st was the seventh anniversary of my sister, Terri Schiavo’s death.

Terri was starved and dehydrated to death by those who value killing the innocent ahead of preserving life, and who put God second to the powers of a corrupt legal and government system—or leave Him out of the equation, entirely.

Terri never wanted to die, and in fact told us just the opposite—that she wanted to live. As we look back on all she endured, we realize that Terri did not die in vain. For years the “death cult” lurked in the shadows. Now, through the media coverage and public outcry surrounding Terri’s tragic ordeal, the evil of imposed death on the innocent and vulnerable has been exposed.

Our family learned, in the most painful way possible, of the existence of this “pro-death culture,” as we fought to save Terri. Please listen carefully when we say that there is a nationwide movement under way to promote a so-called “right to die,” with the ultimate goal of legalizing involuntary euthanasia.

Terri’s Execution Was a Wake-Up Call: Who Benefits from Euthanasia?

Ethicists and economists are questioning whether the long accepted “spending mindset” is best for the financial future of programs such as Medicare. Estimates show that about $88 billion of Medicare’s annual budget (10/18/06 – USA Today) goes to care for patients in their final year of life. Private medical insurers also have a vested interest in “cost containment” as health care costs continue to spiral and our population ages. As retirees live longer, the drain on Social Security has the potential to deplete the already jeopardized fund.

The same scenario applies to the medical profession, forcing doctors to decide who lives and dies based not on the value of every human life, but on the value of the almighty dollar.

Under IPAB (Independent Payment Advisory Board) 15 politically appointed members will make vital decisions on Medicare which removes the doctor patient relationship in determining what is best and will ultimately lead to countless cases of premature termination of life sustaining care for the elderly, disabled and those deemed as “too expensive”.

But don’t take our word for it, just read what Stanley Kurtz, Senior Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center wrote about the IPAB, “…the elderly will be unable to obtain many kinds of care, or will experience de facto rationing via long treatment delays and sharp declines in the quality of care.

He continued, “Rationing, death panels, socialism, and deception. It’s all there. When Sarah Palin first raised the “death panel” issue, she was referring to end-of-life counseling. But IPAB is the real death panel (as Palin herself later noted), a body of unelected bureaucrats with the power to cut off care through arbitrary rules based on one-size-fits-all cost calculations, just as in Britain.”

Terri’s tragic story has proven that it is no longer safe to assume that the courts and the medical community have the best interests of your loved ones at heart… or even that you can trust your medical professionals to err on the side of life. Just look how the medical profession has created and now uses a diagnosis that studies have shown is wrong almost half the time – the persistent vegetative state (PVS). Yet they are using this diagnosis as a criterion to kill those with brain injuries just like they did in Terri’s case.

Sadly, a “quality of life” ethic has hijacked the profession, leaving very few doctors and nurses who are willing to stand up and fight for the lives of the most vulnerable among us. The “death cult” has no regard for the sanctity of life or compassion for the disabled.

A scary truth.

I have nothing but contempt for the Bush brothers who let this woman starve to death instead knocking down the doors with a military escort if necessary and taking that woman to safety.

How they can show their face in public after letting this American be brutally starved to death is beyond me.

The Culture of Death continues!

Murder seems to be too gentle a term for what happened to her

As for me, get out of my life!

Don't link involuntary to voluntary euthanasia. Your worry about "what if" gets in the way of my personal choice. Don't denounce the entire act. Denounce the illegal act.

a corrupt legal and government system

"Corruption" in this sense isn't about bags of money passing under the table, but a more fundamental kind of corruption where those involved have lost all notion of right and wrong. Once you've lost your moral compass any legal system becomes toxic.

“Rationing, death panels, socialism, and deception. It’s all there. When Sarah Palin first raised the “death panel” issue, she was referring to end-of-life counseling...

No, she wasn't. That was the media spin, and the way they chose to evade her charge.

"End of life counseling" was never the death panel; the death panel is written into every line of the bill, in the cost-benefit analysis that decides who gets what treatment. She knew that and while the Obamists were honest among themselves (we've heard O on tape talking about just that...) they always denied it for public consumption.

But IPAB is the real death panel (as Palin herself later noted), a body of unelected bureaucrats with the power to cut off care through arbitrary rules based on one-size-fits-all cost calculations, just as in Britain.”

Exactly. To a degree these things already happen; O's bill just made it more explicit and made getting around it more difficult if not impossible.

Don't link involuntary to voluntary euthanasia.

Been enlightened have you. Truth is, you can't have one without the other.

Truth is, you can't have one without the other.

So, prosecute one and not the other.

The only silver lining to this was when Schiavo got a complex about muddying up his own reputation and started up a revenge PAC...I added this to a thread you posted way back when...never hurts to relive a little schadenfreude...

"When a dozen-plus Congressional Democrats added their voices to the Starvation Nation, I remarked at the time how nearly every one of them belonged to the Democratic Socialists of America [DSA] caucus.

Then later this was as much confirmed when Schiavo started his payback PAC for '06, and proceeded to get most of his DUmmie candidates beat [in a historically significant mid-2nd term opposition party sweep, no less].

High-profile, fellow-traveling DUmmies like Jim Davis, Ned Lament, and (CO-4) Angie Paccione; and what the heck, let's go down the list: (FL-9) Phyllis Busansky, (FL-10) Samm Simpson, (FL-21) Frank Gonzalez, (FL-25) Michael Calderin, (MA-9) Jack Robinson, (NJ-7) Linda Stender, (NY-29) Eric Massa, and (OH-1) John Cranley -- all lost with Schiavo's support.

Schiavo just couldn't stand all this electoral 'success', so much so he took his PAC off life support and buried it just a month (note: Sept. 2007) ago."

So, were you one of those who publically thirsted for her involuntary death/execution via forcible starvation and dehydration, in order to supposedly secure your “right to die with dignity”?

If so, I sincerely wish you had stayed out of Terri Schiavo’s life, and didn't link her court ordered execution to your personal choices regarding the level of medical care you want provided in extreme circumstances.

You do remember that all of her “healthcare” costs were paid for, for the balance of her expected lifetime via a lawsuit, and that she merely required food and water to exist?
She was not actively dying of any fatal disease or terminal condition.

Stop trying to pretty up the language to salve your perverted emotions.
As if deeming euthanasia as involuntary or voluntary means anything other than medically induced murder.

What are your thoughts on the death penalty?

What you guys probably don’t know, is, Jeb Bush signed into law that hospitals/care facilities could remove feeding tubes from “vegetative” patients like Terri. HE was complicit in her murder!!! I saw the law WITH HIS SIGNATURE! So, they had NO intention of helping Terri; neither of them. I will NEVER forget.

I resent people overlaying her situation on mine.

I'm ill and want to make a choice. Why can't you separate the two?

Resent me, resent life, resent anything and everything you please.

It seems you are the only one guilty of what you “resent” others for supposedly doing.

Lots of people on this forum are physically “ill”.
All of us here, and everyone else living in this world, are eventually going to die of something.

You never did answer my question.

Were you one of those who who openly thirsted for Teri Schiavo’s death?
