NBC: Romney Wins Illinois Republican Party By Michael O'Brien, msnbc.com
Mitt Romney won the Illinois Republican primary with some ease on Tuesday evening, allowing him to likely add at his advantage over his rivals in the tally of delegates needed to secure the party's presidential nomination.
NBC News projected that Romney had won the contest, the lone presidential primary taking place on Tuesday, shortly after polls closed. The primary offered Republicans maybe their best chance yet of a genuine one-on-one battle between the former Massachusetts governor and Santorum, his chief competitor for the Republican nod.

I'm with you Scott. Tonight reminds me of why I officially left the Republican party about four years ago to become independent.
I will not vote for Romney no matter who he picks as VP. I did that in 2008 (voted for VP). Never again!
If Obama is elected our fate is sealed...period. At least with Romney (should he win the primary) we have a chance. Again, I completely understand where you're coming from, and the utter frustration that you and others feel.
I heard they expected Romney to win by 20. Is that right. Right now Romney is at 47.4 and Rick at 34.5 with 75% in. Rick might walk with some delegates.
I have much in common with Newt. If we voted for someone that resembled ourselves, I would choose Newt over everyone else. Newt strikes me of someone who is an idea man who can come up with great principles.
We need someone like Washington. Washington - wasn’t known for his ability to covey ideas, but to maintain a consistant footing in times of great trial. I’m willing to sacrifice ideas for consistancy, someone that I can trust at the end of the day.
I guess I see it like this. I wish I could be as good a man as Santorum is for his family, and I admire how he has raised them and conducted himself.
So that is why I supported Santorum over Newt. Now, I think it’s more pragmatism, Newt didn’t get it done when he needed to. It’s hard enough for Santorum to catch Romney - let alone Newt. We don’t have the luxury of time (as we once had), to sit and decide.
All due respect to Newt - I believe that Santorum has the best chance of defeating both Romney and Obama.
You either vote against obmama, frankly I don't see obama and romney as equivalents,or help them, hurt us.Still not rocket science.
CANNOT BE SAID ENOUGH. I REFUSE to hand my childrens' lives over to a MARXIST HELLBENT ON TAKING THEM AND THEIR COUNTRY DOWN.
OH...and GUESS WHOSE KIDS WILL BE ON TOP OF THE OBAMA/AYERS/HOLDER/JARRETT SH*T LIST?
YOURS AND MINE.
I refuse to deny my children a CHANCE to save their country--a chance to give them some TIME to turn things around. I love my kids and my country too much to let them go down come November.
“They cost us this. The no one but Rick, stubborness.”
The social Conservative, one issue voter, has destroyed this party. They have tunnel vision and nothing will sway them from it. It’s what has given us the second Obama term.
It’s done by Congressional district, Winner take all. Which is why Santorum’s showing downstate is so crucial.
Doesn’t matter if Romney blows him out in Cook - what does matter is if Santorum can win the rest. So with his good showing downstate he’s going to take more than a few delegates tonight.
For Romney 47%
For Anyone But Romney 53%
IN a state that will vote for Obama as noted above...
But with the winner-take-all states coming, how do we keep Romney below the nominating threshhold?
The way I see it, it’s just going to take not giving up, and a LOT of re-education of the independent ignorants and the conservatives who claim to be conservatives, but are really just RINOs — or are just good people but too busy to educate themselves on politics.
You almost just have to feel sorry for them and how ignorant they are. It’s not something that can be easily overcome.
We battle the media, we battle the distracting sporting events, men who golf, women who work, soccer moms, suburbanites, mall zombies, American Idol, and all the rest of the “idols” Americans enjoy.
If Romney becomes the nominee, I will have to go with it, just vote my republican heart out, and hope and be involved and DO NOT LET UP on these leaders anywhere in Congress. It’s always going to be a small number of patriots that saves this nation.
Would Romney directly attack the Catholic church? I don’t feel he would. Would he state that he needs a “civilian army?” I doubt it. Would he take dozens of vacations on the taxpayer’s dime? I don’t think he would do that either.
He’ll be hideous, but he would not be utterly evil, marxist, or entirely phony or corrupt, or a closet homo.
All of that said, I’m STILL 100% in support of this thing going to a brokered fight in the end. 100%. And even if Newt never gets near the WH, he’s now an open platform from which to speak ...and never let up.
Just give it time ...give it time.
To each their own. I want to see anyone explain how consistently voting for people who go against what you believe in is a good idea. I want to see someone explain why ‘this time is different’ compared to all the other times it was different and why Lucy will not yank the football away.
I want someone to explain why it is that a third party 10 months ago was insane and today so many people want that very thing now that it’s too late to form one with a candidate and a chance to win.
I want to see someone explain how voting for BeelzeBub instead of Lucifer forwards the conservative cause.
Explain that and Romney gets my vote. And I do not see that happening.
Yes, I am very angry because we had a strong plan to beat Romney and the 2 sides refused to come together. It was such a beautiful (conservative) plan-we could have rolled Mitt over with all of our forces coming in as one. Rick is still running tonight against Newt and that is not working. It is becoming painful to watch our 2 sides to do this. It looks bad. The left-wingers on TV were gloating that Romney beat Rick and Newt was fighting to stay in 3rd or 4th. They all will be popping champagne tonight. The best person to bring in reforms and have the best shot at Obama is in 3rd. I hope the GOP has fun selling Romneycare. Turn out continues to be down. CBS reporting that nearly half of Mitt and Rick's voters were dissatisfied with the person they voted for so kinda protest votes. Praying a new person comes out of the convention. Our only hope in saving America. The GOP can die with Romneycare as far as I'm concerned.
Newt was running ads on radio against Santorum on radio here as late as this morning.
“Im getting a little tired of Santorum supporters believing that Im some mind-numbed robot who will vote the way someone tells me to.”
That is the Santorum brigades way of explaining their candidates loss. It’s always “Newt’s fault” for not bowing out and pointing “his people” to Romney lite. The same could be said of Santorum. If he would have bowed out and backed Newt in Florida, Newt would have this sewn up by now.
The Santorum lovers can kiss my white backside.
Has Romney won a red state yet?
I am still worried about Mittens getting 50%. Some of the huge population centers have not updated their totals in a while.
Cook county has been sitting at 79% for over an hour. Dupage and Kane have barely reported any results. Both will favor Mittens by huge margins.
Your the one-issue tunneler, in your petty animosity toward social conservatives.
It’s very hard to move it that much at this point.
Romney should be capped to 48 percent. I would be surprised to see it change more than that.
