Victim kills teen robber on trail, police say (Reading, PA)

A 65-year-old man shot two teens, one fatally, as they tried to rob him Wednesday morning on a trail near the Schuylkill River, police said.

The Berks County coroner's office did not release the name of the boy who was killed, saying only that he was a 16-year-old from the city. Officials said his mother asked them to give her time to notify relatives before releasing his name.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:17 p.m. by Deputy Coroner Jonn M. Hollenbach. An autopsy is scheduled this afternoon in Reading Hospital.

The other teen, who was shot once, was taken to Reading Hospital. Police did not release his name. Information on his condition could not be obtained.

A third teen, identified only as a 15-year-old boy, was stopped at the scene by police and taken in for questioning. He was later committed to the county youth center in Bern Township on unspecified charges.

Authorities also did not release the name of the man, who was not charged.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly before 11 on the Thun Trail near the Schuylkill River pedestrian bridge between Reading and West Reading.

According to investigators:

The man was riding his bicycle on the trail near the Bertolet Fishing Dock at South First Avenue and Chestnut Street in West Reading.

The teens knocked the man off his bicycle, and two of them assaulted him.

The man pulled out a handgun and shot them both.

The real culprits in this are the parents and relatives of these little punks who had such miserable or nonexistent parenting skills that 65 year old guy was forced to defend himself by shooting them. It is criminal to let viscous dogs run wild attacking people and even more so to raise viscous children to do the same.

>> And he would be charged with what?

Please keep in mind that in some places, it’s a crime to defend yourself. (Not sure if Pennsylvania is one of those, or not.)

Glad I live in Texas, though, where the right to defend yourself is written into state law.

Get a Glock 20 (10mm) or 21 (.45 ACP) and get a .50 GI conversion kit for it.

g’night. And I have two female kids so my white apoligies are over. They were over before I had kids. But now they’re over in a different way. I’m in no way perfect but I’ve had more than enough.
History has always been about ethnicity first, and class second. I’m a poor mutt. Should be intersting.

I think that was the third shooting here in the last 7 days. We get about one a week. It’s nuts.

I just got the LC9.

I have retired the S&W 442
The LC9 is pretty sweet, although it weighs a bit more, it actually has sights, it has no recoil in comparison, it holds 7 vice 5, it has a more capable cartridge, the trigger is far superior and it has a positive safety.

Oh, and it costs less.

Check one out. “2011 gun of the year”

Finally reported somewhere. Two very important points:

The man pulled out a handgun and shot them both.

After consulting with Adams, police decided to release the man and charge the juvenile.

The third was not involved in the attack. He did not shoot him. That is why he is not being charged in the attack based on the new PA laws. Sadly, the "wilding" has gone beyond Philadelphia.

There should be no celebration here. He had to take a life. This is part of our modern times.

Nice work on the decode.

In this case the reporters omitted these often clarifying details:
a. he was an "aspiring" rapper or basketball player
b. commentary from his 32 year old grand mother
c. kind words from some local preacher or reverend, "Julius was a good boy with a warm smile."

“Officials said his mother asked them to give her time to notify relatives before releasing his name”

She needs time to reach Father who doesn’t live at home? Time to determine WHO the father was. It takes time to reach
“relatives” in prison.

The dead “yoot” has a Facebook tribute page. I imagine the tribute isn’t going the way Urethea and her cuzzin’ Fallopian counted upon...

I also live in Texas. There was a shooting less than mile from my house this evening. Police post on facebook described the perps as 3 Black Males wearing ski masks. Big brave dudes shot one woman and pistol whipped another. They are very very lucky that I live on the other side of the creek, and that I wasn't home anyway. :) I do wish the women had been armed. The neighborhood were it occurred is composed of 4-plexes. It would be Ski Mask boys with the holes in them. .45 caliber holes. Course that would make it much harder to sell my house, which already has a bullet scar in the driveway and on a couple of interior walls. Don't have a clue where that .40 bullet came from. It was a JHP though. I'll get someone to fix the drywall, since I have several other places that need fixing, but have nothing to do with a bullet coming through the window.

Meant to add that the women took themselves to the hospital, the same hospital where some of Nidal Hassan’s victims were taken. Neither has life threatening injuries.

Definitely not.

Not only is Pennsylvania often called the "militia capital" of the country, but we recently passed solid "castle doctrine" legislation. Plus we have very easy concealed carry, probably second only to Vermont in ease of CC. ANY non-criminal Pennsylvania resident over 21 can get a CC permit on the spot at the local sheriff's office. No "safety" or any other courses are required, you don't need to give a reason for wanting CC other than "self defense", and you don't even need to own a gun.

I recommend all Pennsylvania freepers go get their CC permits tomorrow, if you don't already have one. I think the current fee is $25 and the permit is good for 5 years. Just take proof of residency in whatever county you live in. I've had mine for at least 20 years. (Note: I can't speak for how you will be treated in the concentrated Democrat parasite nests ["cities"] but in most counties you will be treated with helpful courtesy.)

They’re feral teenagers, probably don’t know the Golden Rule or that they will ultimately have to give an account of their lives before their Creator.

Thats cheap! That would just cover filing costs.

Hmm.. I think most people these days use acid to remove serial numbers. Files are old school.
