Barney Frank: Obama Would Easily Defeat Gingrich
NewsMax ^ | Dec 17, 2012 | By Gary Cohen

Retiring Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., sees President Barack Obama easily winning another term in office if matched up against former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in the 2012 election, The Hill reports.

Frank says Obama would have no problem winning reelection but would not say if the president would surpass his 2008 victory totals.

Gingrich capturing the GOP presidential nomination, "would be the best thing to happen to the Democrats since Barry Goldwater," Frank recently said.

Frank told The Hill Gingrich could carry most of the southern states but predicted Obama's electoral count would be "in the 300s" against the Republican from Georgia.

In 2008, Obama racked up 365 electoral votes and opponent, Sen. John McCain had 173. In 1964, President Lyndon Johnson won 486 electoral votes and Goldwater had just 52

The Hill points out earlier this fall, Frank said former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney would be more of a challenge for Obama next November, with Frank seeing Texas Governor Rick Perry as a weaker candidate.

Frank and Gingrich are not exactly close friends. The former House Speaker had previously said Frank should be put behind bars for the role he played in the financial crisis in 2008.

Well, there you go. What more evidence do you need. If Barney Frank says it, it must be true.

I think at that point we'd have to jail probably 70 to 80 percent of the House.

HECK! I'm all for it!

I know that I certainly go to the bank when Bawney speaks. The opposite of what he says is the actual truth, in most cases.

The word is out - the liberals chant, ‘we want romney’.

Gingrich is going after Frank, the little miss would look prissy in orange. And he would be the one who would know how to do it. And then going to stop the madness of the liberal judges. I think Newt has his laundry list ready and checking it twice.

They know it’s easy sailing w/romney there. If we want justice - IT MUST BE NEWT with a landslide! That will be our first ‘WeThePeople’ message. Newt is odd man out w/the establishment - it must be hell for him as someone wants the prize of taking him down. IRS is checking his tax returns as we speak.

I suspect even Barney Frank can figure out that Newt would do whatever he had to do to beat theOne. Unlike McCain who had no fight in him at all due to his POW status so many years ago. This is just a preemptive strike to scare us off of Newt. Interesting.

Sure he will, Bonnie. Just like Carter made short work of the trigger-happy cowboy actor in 1980.

I'm having trouble warming up to the concept of a 'President Gingrich' but if the alternative is Romney or Obama, I'll go with Newt. That the GOP establishment as well as leftist hacks such as the execrable Barney Frank are attacking Gingrich, he must be a threat. So, I'm leaning his way but awaiting the outcome of the Iowa caucuses, which could bring a surprise, as they did in 2008 (Huckabee).

As most FReepers understand, this is our last chance to get it right. We elect another big-government president, even one who claims to be a rock-ribbed conservative, and the U.S. as we know and love it is going to be finished. We can't afford another Beltway insider that keeps the corrupt system going as it drives our nation off the cliff of bankruptcy and all the negative ramifications that would generate.

Newt talks a good conservative game but I hope he is being real and not simply pandering for conservative votes that he'll pocket, then ignore the people behind those votes if he wins the election. We may have to elect him to find out. I see that as a risk but inevitably, one conservatives may have to take due to the absolute necessity to oust the Kenyan Marxist, Obama.
