Silver doesnt quite go so far as to say that it makes a brokered convention or a late-breaking establishment candidate likely, but Im willing to go that far. Theres just no way the Republican establishment lets Gingrich become their nominee. As Andrew Sullivan pointed out today, youre already seeing the anti-Gingrich mobilization among conservative thought leaders: Heres George Will, Charles Krauthammer, David Brooks, Ross Douthat, Tom Coburn and Ann Coulter, just for starters. Theres this Politico story about all the Washington Republicans who hate Gingrich.
Now, I think its more likely that this mobilization leads to a Romney win then a brokered convention or a new entrant. But I think it makes a Gingrich win almost impossible to imagine. And if something once considered so impossible begins to look likely, then correspondingly extraordinary events again, like a brokered convention will become likely, also.

The GOP Big Dogs can do what the hell the want, but if enough vote in the Primaries for Newt, they will not prevail.
What they gonna do, toss out Primary elections?
No doubt what we’ll see is a hard smear campaign, which Newt should be able to withstand and in the end the GOPers will come on board.
Let’s reward these RINOs for attacking Gov. Palin
and her children and the other conservative women.
By ignoring them.
Not one of them is a conservative.
Uh oh. The more the Republican establishment is against Newt, the more I’m for him.
The harder inside the beltway establishment republicans push back against Gingrich the more primary votes he gets!
What a dumb article. The ‘64 rules favored party establishment hacks far more, and that didn’t stop Goldwater.
A BIG chunk of Republican delegates come from the south. They ain’t going Romney.
If they want to do brokered, they have to find some widely respected figure who sat out from a dislike of campaigning, sort of a younger Fred Thompson type.
Money talks? the GOP version of ACORN? this election is driving me nuts lol
I believe with the RINO elitist’s in charge of the Republican Party that there very well could be a flip of the wee birdie to us all, and what we want just as they undermined any Sarah Palin attempt to win the nomination as I believe RINO Romney has made all the promises, the deals, and paid the money to the key RINO establishment players already.
I believe Romney has bought and paid for the nomination, therefore there is every possibility there will be action to ensure Romney IS the nominee by those RINO elitists in charge of the GOP.
It’s a damned shame, but the enemy within is in charge, and until we can get them the “H” out of their seats, we are at their mercy.
We at the ranch are 100% behind Newt Gingrich, and we pray he will be successful in overwhelming those establishment RINO’s so completely they would be entirely too obvious in their refusal to comply with the will of the people.
The Dems, Libs, Socialist’s including RINO’s entrenched in the GOP have much to lose in this race, and will pull every dirty trick in the book to win, and continue the transformation of this Nation and the World to their perspective, their goal of the NWO.
JMHO
The RINO GOP establishment cannot be stupid enough to try to pull that crap. The Tea Party will sink the GOP into insignificance with a new third party.
Aye, if he gets the delegates all those people will have no choice in his nomination. Personally, they could choose not to support him: vote for Zero, abstain, whatever. Their choice.
And good damned riddance if they try it.
+1
I am starting to believe that so much money has been invested in the Romney campaign and this election was supposed to Promises have been made to supporters...I am braced for some dirty tricks ...worse than what happened with Palin and perhaps Cain. Difference being Newt knows the election process and legalities a little better than most...he will fight
Newt will win this outright in a 40+ state landslide, it won’t even be close.
Romney has never led in much more than a handfull of states this entire year against anyone, and he hasn’t polled ahead of Gingrich anywhere excpet New Hampshire since this month began.
Look at the polls, look at the maps, count the delegates, look at the schedule, and you will quickly see that Romney is doomed, this will turn out very similar to the Republican primary of 2000 with Romney playing the role of McCain and Gingrich playing the role of Bush.
Thanks katiedidit1. The nomination of Newt Gingrich would be a massive disaster, except for one thing — his nomination would limit us to only four more years of Obama, and an end to the perennial Newt infestation. If Newt’s the VP nominee — something that would make sense from a number of different standpoints — I’ll be happy to vote for the ticket.
Paul Ryan, if he’s a true civil servant, should have run. He’s showing his true RINO colors. His excuse was his young family, but he didn’t step up. He’s in the district next to me. He’s always on the talkers shows around here. It’s sad he didn’t hear the call for a real conservative president. Now we got to sort out the clowns. Paul Ryan would have beat Obama’s clock.
It’s a shame we have another McCain. I’m so sick of holding my nose. The LAST president I voted FOR was Regan. Now, it’s going to be a vote for the lesser. It’s such a shame.
Us conservatives have more work to do. It’s bigger than any of us thought.
*sigh*
Disagree with YOU! Newt is the candidate that will turn Ameirca around and back to prosperity. He is the BEST candidate running...PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
