He also suggested a $5k penalty and a requirement that they do not get entitlements or welfare. They’d need to speak English. They would not be permitted to vote.
They’d basically have to prove that they are worthy of being permitted to remain here as guest workers.
There’s more but you get the idea. It doesn’t sound so much like incentives when you read the details.
A good many of them would fail to clear those hurdles, and they’d be deported.
“Very severe penalties for employers” of illegals, would help insure they didn’t hang around.
Gingrich’s mistake was to offer details as if he’d be given a fair hearing by his rabid detractors.
When these details are tweaked out of Bachmann, Cain, and the rest, they will sound very much the same.
“He also suggested a $5k penalty and a requirement that they do not get entitlements or welfare.”
Meaningless. Either hardship exemptions (which are easy to get when there is no tax record), or courts waive it, or INS waives it, or Congress doesn’t bother passing it in the first place.
“Theyd need to speak English.”
Irrelevant. We have plenty of English speakers that could care less about this country.
“They would not be permitted to vote.”
We all know that the courts will simply not permit that to stand.
“Theyd basically have to prove that they are worthy of being permitted to remain here as guest workers.”
To whom, representatives of La Raza? We already have a process for immigration...they should go home and use it.
“Theres more but you get the idea. It doesnt sound so much like incentives when you read the details.”
Maybe not to you, but to people south of the border, it’s a GOLD MINE. They can live here, and work, and have kids, and not have to worry about being sent home.
“A good many of them would fail to clear those hurdles, and theyd be deported.”
We have NO IDEA if that’s the case, since we don’t know who they are, what papers they can come up with, how ACORN will be involved in coaching them, and how much Newt will wind up watering down the plan. I suspect the vast majority will wind up qualifying, and I don’t want to put the demographic future of this country at risk with that gamble.
Very severe penalties for employers of illegals, would help insure they didnt hang around.”
We already have those penalties. And, in fact, Obama is doing a BETTER JOB than Bush-43 did in enforcing them. As long as the Illegals are here, it’s a TOTAL CRAPSHOOT as to whether there will be any enforcement. I have zero confidence in ANY candidate, of any party, to enforce our immigration laws anymore. The only option is to GET RID OF THE ILLEGALS.
“Gingrichs mistake was to offer details as if hed be given a fair hearing by his rabid detractors.”
Yep, what a dummy on that. He should have waited until he had the nomination before bring up Amnesty...like McCain did. He probably blew his only only shot.
